The "western countries" come in in the middle of the pack, the "muslim countries" seem to come in below them, and the worst rates seem to be far northern countries.

The best rates are in Tropical countries.

Seems to me it has more to do with Climate than with type of society.

As a Canadian trust me I know why, winter here is extremely depressing, winter depression is real, and probably kills a lot of people that wouldn't otherwise commit suicide.

Well I did look at the wiki page, and I do note that in I'slam it's forbidden to do suicide. My grand mothers sister jumped off a train going over a bridge over water, and did suicide. I cannot recall any other such cases.

I noticed that Cuba has a pretty high suicide rate, especially if you compare it to other Caribbean nations? I thought Cuba solved all their social problems long ago, and that it was a worker's paradise, with high-quality, free mental health care for all? What's up with the high suicide rate?

I think that there is something to the latitudinal differences

i'd be willing to bet the same is true for points south of the equater, as well

something to do with the amount of sunlight

i know rates are higer closer to the arctic circle

so are rates for alcoholism

less amount of sunlight, higher rates of depression, alcoholism and suicide

i have to ask about the muslim factor, though....does suicide bombing count as suicide? You don't see that in other cultures

Such is a modern phenomena, only seen in an extreme sharp rise after 2005. It's as if, you put a bomb around a mu'slim, end of your mu'slim problem.
