I'm guessing from listening to generations before us. Don't argue that. That was what "men" were taught to be. Sure, there were fathers who were different but they were not the societal "norm". I know personally because I had a father just like that. I come from a religious family like you do. And I know that if my father had been a more compassionate, loving example of what a real man should be, it would have saved me alot of time that was wasted on trashy men.

Why are mothers there for hugs and kisses and booboos? I'm not affectionate. I'm not that kind of person. Why should my husband become the quintessential, responsible, survivalist male when he is more affectionate? Why should we reverse roles for societies ideas of who should be what? Why can't we just be ourselves and appreciate that?

Blah blah blah, what it takes to be a man? It doesn't take anything. It takes genitals. I fail to see how a mother would not be involved in teaching children responsiblity and survival. I fail to see how it is important for the mother to be one thing and the father to be another. People have different strengths and weaknesses and it's not based on your gender.
