The NT was written in Greek. Only later did some translate it to aramaic.


The Grrek was the language of the Byzantine and so it was perfectly preserved until it was then translated to English.

I think that the translation from Aramaic is an excellent thing.

The bible has been so corrupted through all the different translations from one language to another, that it's time to go back to basics!

I have read from this website for the past few years, and the direct translation from Aramaic to English had continued. One of the most astonishing translation is the following:

Original:
Matthew 27:46 "Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?’ which means, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me ?’ "

Aramaic to English:
46. And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out in a loud voice and said, "Eil, Eil, l'mana sh'wik-thani?"*

Translator's comments: 46 Original ancient Aramaic retained: " 'I AM,' 'I AM,' wherefore have you left me?" "Eil" is a title of God, "IS." It has not been translated in English as such, therefore I have used the more acceptable designation "I AM." Idiomatically, "Wherefore" implies destiny. "Sh'wik-thani" is the only correct transliteration, and it means "left me" in the sense of the purpose for which Jesus was left on the cross. It absolutely does not mean "forsaken" in this usage.


So it was " I AM , I AM, why have you left me?" Divinity within, for everyone, not just Jesus.

Jesus didn't write the gospels. The original language of the gospels were Greek, and now obviously someone has translated the Bible into Aramaic and then to English. Only the Vatican has the original writings that were adapted to make up the New Testament. I would love to see that collection some day.

The word 'catholic' means 'universal'.

The 'church' means 'people'

Mary is dead, and they (catholic faith) say 'pray to her' - they have idols/figurines of her - the Word says not to pray to dead people, for only Christ can answer our prayers, our hope is in Him not a dead person.

Wow. This is all very interesting. I always find it particularly interesting when people discuss any aspect of the Holy Word of God in a crass or disrespectful or sanctimonious manner - as that is quite ungodly, thus unChristlike. If I were going to participate here I would do so very circumspectly.

How could anyone think that Greek was the original language of the scriptures? There is an abundant amount of evidence it was ancient Aramaic ancient aramaic and ancient hebrew are virtually the same language. For you to get on here and throw greek at aramaic as the true language is insane.
the greek came with the romans long after the scriptures.

I've read these translations and found them enlightening. They flowed with a smooth orderly and simple to understand message.

Koine Greek was the language of the eastern roman empire. Even if Jesus spoke Aramaic which is now coming under scrutiny, the fact remains the NT was composed entirely in Greek. These Aramaic translations while interesting are merely reverse translations, trying to e trapolate new meanongs from an aramaic reading. Nothing outlandishly new or conspiratorial can be revealed and the reader is really in the hands of the translators. The most accurate translation available is the ESV.

what about the orthodox churchs that split from the Catholics cause. They changed the creed and did things that best suited them
