Anonymous Coward User ID: 433558 United States 08/30/2008 03:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So I've been addicted to fennel seeds for a year and a half. I chew them when I'm surfing the net, reading a mag and almost always right after every meal. Chewing them somehow used to make me feel so good, so "right". Until I realized I'm an addict and I'm ruining my teeth and possibly compromising my health. 100-150 grams a day could very well cause nervous system damage in the longer run. Quoting: Warrior 247966Trying to quit and it isn't easy, specially since I can't find any info on why I'm craving this particular substance so intensely and how to overcome it. I'm trying to resist the urge with lemon water. It works - upto a point. Feels kinda weird though, I seem to be the only one out there with an addiction to fennel seeds. Of all things! Dang. Substitute it for something else. Like sunflower seeds. Save the fennel for a pork loin. |

3rd Eye Open User ID: 477574 United States 08/30/2008 03:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You might have a hormonal imbalance and your body NEEDS the Fennel, that's why you are craving them ! Fennel seeds are a natural source of Estrogen, it helps calm down males who are over-testosteroned, and for women who wish to naturally augment breast size, Fennel will assist in this too ! It's also good for digestion and relieves intestinal gas. Of all things to be "addicted" to, Fennel's not such a bad choice !! Good luck ! |

Trouble is, since I have over-production of estrogen, the fennel is giving me grief by compounding the problem. I'm praying that the lemon water is eliminating whatever is inside of me that demands fennel. Nasty withdrawal symptoms too. But I'll survive. Thank you for caring |

gsbltd User ID: 629889 United States 03/07/2009 10:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Fennel just happens to be one of my favorite spices - or failing Fennel ["Failing Fennel?" sounds like a sitcom about a slacker teenager, doesn't it!??] , its taste-alike cousin, Anise seeds. I use both liberally in virtually anything Italian for a milder yet distinctive flavoring. Pretty odd addiction, though! If it's a flavor thing, maybe you can wean yourself off the Big-F by switching to Anise... although I'm sure there's some report someplace that'll claim THEY'RE bad for you, too! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 689787 United States 05/28/2009 03:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am literally shocked to find ppl who are addicted to fennel just like I am. I am trying to get rid of it too as it has lots of estrogen and I have uterine fibroid that feeds on estrogen. I have menstrual irregularities and I thought fennel is bad having estrogen in it but my gyne says, its ok to eat fennel seeds. I don't know if the seeds really are harmful. If anyone knows harmful effects of fennel, plz let me know more so if someone can recommend how should I get rid of the habbit. Thanks and god bless. |

I am addicted as well and used to chew them as regularly as yourself. I also realized the same things you did and so recently I stopped buying them, in an attempt to quit. It works, but I do get those impulses at times, these I just ignore. |
