Re: The VP Candidates Family
A woman's right to choose over her body works anyway a woman decides....

And when they choose we have to respect that choice...

I think it is disgraceful to call Bristol's baby a problem, or to describe it terms of a social tragedy.

Get over it...it's a choice in life,,,, and if she's fine with it so should we all be...
---

She runs on a platform of abstinence before marriage. Maybe she should instill her values in her children and leave ours alone?

Re: The VP Candidates Family
Here's why it's impostant:
She has an overall "cult of lies" that surrounds her regarding her family. From her unwanted pregancy at 16 and passing that son off as her brother who is now an alcoholic. Eloping with Todd pregnant. Having affairs with Todd's business partner and the brother in law she is under investigation for having destroyed his and his superior's careers,to hide her lies. Now her daughter repeats Sarah's own history by having her son passed off as her brother(85% of Down's babies are born to women under 35)then in just enough time to get pregnant again...bingo. So now Sarah must start a new round of lies to cover the other lies. She clearly cannot run her own family HOW will she run a country if needed? If I were dumb enough to believe she actually HAD Trig, please explain to me how starving a baby(she obviously gained NO weight;how was the baby fed?) Went on a strenuous hike in the wilderness with a film crew 13 days before supposedly delivering??? Went ahead to TX to give a key speech hours before delivery and then flew and drove all over the place, then was back at work 3 days later??? This is not a good mother nor an example we should be promoting. She wants to promote abstanence in the schools but can't abstain herself??? She made it our business and McCain in his desperation should have vetted her before he picked her not after.

"Let this governor advance us to adoring and accepting the entire family and take this blight off early and surprise pregnancies which strikes within all families within their relatives. It should be a family matter and national politics stay out of it..."

You are right, accept the pregnancy. What I do not accept is Sarah Palin lying about being pregnant and delivering a child that was her daughter's.

Is Palin lying about the Down's? Is the Down's made up so that they child can be removed from the public eye whilst she is in public office - because the child belongs to her daughter.

The daughter's current pregnancy is no issue, none, nada. It is the Republican right trying to make the current pregnancy an issue to get the first pregnancy out of the spot light.

I despise lying bitches!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 495698

If this is true that she isnt the mother, then that lie had been well developed long before she was seriously considered being VP. It's a family lie. So what?

The other speculation, not being a Down syndrome. Jeez, I havent heard that, so why are you even bringing it up?

Your last paragraph? Yes that's probably the case. The McCain camp are running scared and deflecting big time.

The facts are that the little town rumor mill of Alaska has been running big time for quite awhile about Palin's baby, so it didnt take too much to tap into it. The Republicans were caught off guard, and trying to salvage what they can. Unfortunately for Bristol and anyone else who is a victim up there, they are feeding the story instead of letting it die...

McCain and his advisors dont care, Sraha's family has been used from the beginning -- from using them to promote a pro-lifer position on everyone, to so-called idealic virtuous family values, to using them as victims of the Democrats -- all for political advantage and without scintilla of human sincerity.

And they'll probably dump the whole family in the end, without even an apology... and their lives will be the subject of ridicule for years.

The daughter may blame herself for having lost her mother the chance at being VP...

I mean it goes on and on....

And all's the Repug machine can do is blame it on ... who? you and me in the blogoshere... of course only the Democrats of us, no one else of course...

Disgusting cynical people, these politicos.

Re: The VP Candidates Family
Since this issue is being discussed in the media I applaud Bristol for having her baby. Many others would not have done so. She is fortunate to have a loving supportive family. The issue of her marrying the father really really concerns me. Maybe they would rather marry and divorce which will undoubtedly happen. I cannot imagine that the chances of such a marriage lasting are very high.My advice to her would be not to marry. She and her boyfriend will feel less pressure that way as they are after all just children themselves. If it is OK to be pregnant at 17 then it should be equlaly OK to not have to feel pressure to marry the father. This family will support her and the baby. There is no doubt of that. Now the most important issue of all is can Sarah deal with all of this in addition to being the Vice President? She is capable and likely can but the Presidency is another matter. Condy Rice has done as well as she has because there are no kids at home. Maybe I will be surprised, I hope so. Sarah is obviously a very gutsy lady but standing up to corrupt entities is very very hard and will be much worse in Washington. The Democratic and Republican parties thrown by the Lobbyists quite frankly made me physically want to throw up!If she can clean any of that up, good for her, but as a woman who has fought against corruption in the medical field all my life it is tough and lonely and a longhard slog without much reward hf. Good luck to all involved.

Fine I understand that. Question her political positions on everything from choice to sex education to religion in schools to vouchers to daycare to health care. And all the rest of course... Do we know them? Has she said anything beyond her being a woman with family values? Dont we all have family values? Arent half of us women? Those arent issues. All's we are doing is debating Republican talking points by them focusing us on a mother and her daughter's relationships? What the hell are we supposed to do, turn their family dramas into a national political debate? It is a Republican trap to avoid the real issues....

Politically, it is a no brainer...

Just had to share this, hope you all get a chuckle like I did . . !

First, remembering Obama was asked what he thought of Sarah being VP Rep. candidate. Obama's reply: "It's just more of the same"

On Fox channel today, a reporter overheard among the Rep. campaign, Sarah being asked: "Sarah, do you realize the scrutiny that's coming at you? Are you ready for it?

Sarah, smiled, and answered with her own question: "Do you know the difference between a pit-bull and a hockey mom?

No, what? replied the reporter:

Sarah's answer: Lipstick.

I've seen some pretty shallow Hillary supporters. And I've seen Hillary herself sucking up to pro-gunners (whatever that is). And 18 million is a hell of a lot, not all hang on single issues. And what percentage said they would vote for McCain instead of Obama, because they were pissed off (40-50%?)? And add to that the independents. So please, there is a substantial numbers that are soft... and can be persuaded by shoddy politics of which this VP family thingy is...

I dont know if the McCain strategy of using this woman will be successful, but it might work enough across the board...

In any case, it is foolish to attack Sarah Palin on issues around her motherhood. Get down on the issues as I have explained. If the Hillary supporters are so solid as you think, then at least we'll have a better political national debate without leaving a bad taste in the mouth...

I agree. The hyocracy is sickening. But
the Republicans excel in this type of irrelevant apple pie debate. They being hypocrites is a one pony show, a character flaw, it is not a national debate. Democrats cannot show their strengths on more broader social issues of national concern if they allow themselves to debate such shallowness. Allow Palin to be VP. Let her be. Then let Obama bring up the issues that will force them to debate Democrats. That will win the election...

The choice represented a bid by Mr McCain to win over disgruntled former supporters of Hillary Clinton, undercutting Democratic efforts during the convention to reunify the party. Ellen Malcolm, president of Emily’s List, a pro-Democrat group that supports women candidates, challenged the notion that Ms Palin would appeal to former Clinton supporters. “McCain clearly sees the power of women voters in this election but has just as clearly failed to support any of the issues that they care about,” she said, highlighting Ms Palin’s support for overturning the Roe v Wade ruling that legalized abortion.

Did John McCain shoot himself in the foot with this VP choice? Big time. He was losing, and desperate, as the private polls his campaign had been taking revealed the gap between he and Obama to be far larger than the public polls display. Obama has energized voters, so that many young people and people of color have registered to vote. The new Democratic voters far outnumber new Republican voters, by a factor of 5 or 6 to 1. These new voters are NOT included in the polls poll likely voters – those who voted in the past two presidential elections. Then there is the enthusiasm gap, where Democrats are more likely to make it to the polls in November. Given that the arguments the McCain camp were making were not making any headway against Obama, they were desperate for a game changer. Seeing the significant number of disgruntled Hillary fans making claims they would vote for McCain, this seemed like the largest voter block that could potentially be swung to McCain. So what is wrong with this choice?

First is that he has offended Hillary’s strongest block – older women who had been discriminated against during their lifetime, and treated like second class citizens. Standard fare, after not being given equal pay and opportunity for equal work, is being thrown over for a younger woman. McCain already has been branded for this tendency by his history of running out on my first wife, a former beauty queen who was crippled in a car accident. McCain took up with Cindy, an unspoiled beauty. Now the VP choice, another beauty queen and far younger than McCain. Regardless of all arguments, the element of being dismissive of women’s true qualifications for office, and chosing women only for their beauty, is obvious. This is intuitively obvious to the older women voters McCain hoped to attract. Standing next to McCain, Palin seemed like his mistress, a reminder of McCain’s age as his ATTITUDES toward woman is from a different era. Obama has a wife who is a strong woman, competent and even earning more money than he at her day job. McCain now stands in contrast to Obama on this issue, and is losing on this issue to an extent not yet evident in the polls.

Second, McCain has gone beyond his tendency to surround himself with lobbyists and to be susceptible to money interests and plunged himself into a new and very fresh scandal – abuse of power. The Keating 5 scandal is in McCain’s past, where he went to bat for Keating during the Savings and Loan crisis, trying to get regulators to go easy on his friend Keating. This is far enough in the past to be put aside by most voters, but what does his choice of Palin as VP say about his judgement and tendencies? She is embroiled in a controversy, an investigation, that could result in impeachment proceedings against her in Alaska. Without question she wanted to fire her former brother-in-law from his job as a state trooper and insisted, in person and through intermediaries, that this be done. This in and of itself would be considered a light-weight scandal in scandal-prone Alaska, but when she fired the highly competent head of the Department of Public Safety simply because he refused to do her bidding she crossed the line. This is not only criminal
