!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They say Palin's daughter is a private family matter and shouldn't be covered... Then why the fuck should there be national abstinence programs or laws on abortions?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ANSWER THAT! YOU CAN'T! SO SHUT UP!!1

Becuase the mainstream culture in the USA has turned nearly 100% Socialist, that's why those things are there. A true American of the 1776 Revolution would not stand for either of those programs nor laws...but say with loaded musket in hand get the fuck out of my life and off my land.

Re: The VP Candidates Family
Women with underaged and pregnant daughters have FREQUENTLY taken a trip with the daughter in the late months of the pregnancy and mom comes home having "delivered" a new baby somewhere at or near menopause. It's an old southern thing and I know families who've had three or four of these "unconventional" births.

Yes. Ms. Palin's party is the one claiming the high moral ground. (Ha Ha - did you ever see what kind of crap the Bush twins pulled a few years back? They may have been the daughters of a sitting president - but no one in decent society in NYC or Boston or Phily would invite them to their homes! Wonder why? Even those stories were NOT picked up by the press - thank heaven! And believe me, I know people who were there - the stories would have rocked the Bush regime and hard!)

This should sadly make it fairly obvious to all that "abstinence" vs sex education in schools doesn't work worth a damn when faced with pubescent hormones a raging. And the republicans goaded and pushed and humiliated President Clinton with Monica-gate and the blue dress probably was a set up. But they pushed it onward anyway.

Yes. Why in hell do you think I am a Democrat? I don't like their methods, their vile two faced lying, their pretense to a moral high ground that probably doesn't much even exist any longer, and about a million other things from racism, to their general anti-feminist stance. The fact that the Right Wing Bible Thumpers want to deny my civil rights as a gay man doesn't much endear me to them, either. Then there is the matter of "don't ask, don't tell" lest we gays get to be open and out in the military and sodomize the entire armed forces apparently, (by their dubious reasoning) destroying the institution of marriage along the way! So yes, frankly I'd vote for NEARLY anyone vs a Republican. Compared to the last eight years of George W, Atillia the Hun looks good by comparison, in my opinion.

I cannot, under even the above admittedly extreme circumstances, approve or condone the press vilifying a child who's pregnant out of wedlock. That's just "over the line" in my opinion.

I saw the posts about Obama's mother and the circumstances of his birth. Don't any of you know your history well enough to know that most of the Founding Fathers of this Nation were slave owners and MOST of them fathered children with various female slaves? Hell, we may well be getting some of Washington, Jefferson, Franklin and/or other signers or drafters of the constitution's DNA handed to us from the black side of Obama's family! Some of the greatest men in history were born - quite literally - bastards! Usually they quickly overcame that sad fact and many went on to real leadership and some even changed history!

It's not how you begin the race, it's how you finish it! And conversely there are dozens of well born, educated men and women, who because of a very large trust fund, decide that they have no obligation to do anything but bitch about their taxes and party for their three score and ten years on this planet. And most of those somehow wind up as registered Republicans for some unknown reason.

If my child had delivered a baby out of wedlock at 16 or 17, I'd be doing anything and everything I could do as a parent to help her. I'd probably be proud of her for having had the courage to actually deliver the baby vs having is scraped or sucked out of her for the sake of her own convenience. But I would also know that her choice would NOT be an easy one. And given half a chance, I'd probably adopt the baby and raise it as my own, so it's biological mother could finish her education and perhaps have a second chance at a more normal life for a teenager vs being a full time mother.

I LOATHE Governor Palin's political beliefs and the party she represents are as vile as the press chasing her now, in my opinion. But as a parent, I can understand and sympathize with her decisions and her wishing to protect her child and grandchild. Her major mistake was accepting this appointment to be McCain's running mate and to have thought she could somehow avoid this scrutiny of her family in this day and age where even the privacy of a sixteen year old child is no longer a concern when there is a story that might sell a few more copies of some tabloid at the supermarket checkout stand!

Someone on GLP put up a pole about "should she have an abortion" or not. This is a girl, in trouble, having a baby. Your callousness in mocking her and putting such a deeply personal matter up for a public pole is as bad, if not worse than the actions of the press, in my opinion. If there is an award around GLP for "Asshole of the Year" then I'm nominating that poster immediately!

In closing, my thoughts on the subject range broadly from the compassion for this family, to the naive belief on the part of either Govenor Palin or McCain and company that this would not be disclosed (and I'm amazed at that one!) to the real issue is that THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF WHY WE DO NO LONGER HAVE THE BEST and THE BRIGHTEST ASPIRING TO PUBLIC SERVICE! This is why we must settle for the second and third and forth rate political hacks running for public office all over this land! The people who are qualified, educated, successful and WISE ENOUGH to shoulder the immense burden of leadership are not willing to subject themselves, their spouses, their children and their grandchildren (born or unborn) to the kind of peephole journalism and our perverted moralistic insistence that we, the people of the United States via our press, be allowed to scrutinize everything any of them have said, done, thought, or been sexual with/around/for/to in the entire span of their lives!

Jesus said it well. "Let he that is among you without sin, cast the first stone!"

And baby, if that was the criteria we used for printing this trash journalism, there would be a dearth of this yellow-bellied probing into the lives of innocent and NON-CANDIDATE human beings.

Yes. THERE IS A RIGHT TO PRIVACY and it's time we brought it back out of mothballs in this country. If we don't, we're going to be sentenced to choosing from one set of mediocrity vs another every time we go to the poles in this nation!

Think about it! Could you or your family pass such scrutiny? No, I thought not. But this is what we seem to insist on from our candidates today. And you see what we get for quality! Bush, McCain, etc. Talk about bottom of the barrel being scraped...

Re: The VP Candidates Family
Sarah Palin put her daughter in the spotlight when Bristol made a campaign appearance with her mother (the Dayton thing). At that campaign appearance, Bristol hid her pregnancy by draping a blanket and her newborn son Trig over her belly.

Then comes Gustav day, and suddenly they're not hiding it. What a bunch of bullshit artists. Sarah Palin knows it's a problem, which is why she's trying to be so slick about it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 491811

I suppose you would suggest that all the daughter of candidates appear in public fully naked so that we can all judge by photo analysis and make photo based medical diagnosis as to whether or not they are pregnant, or gasp, not really tranvestities.

I know many of Palin's defenders want to make this into an attack on her daughter, but that is not what this is about. I feel horrible that she is in this situation, made much, much worse due to her mother's decision to accept the VP slot, knowing full well the spot light this would bring down on her family.

Notice the reasoning for coming public with this today. It was to try to diffuse speculation about Trig actually being Bristol's son. In other words, Sarah Palin decided to throw her own daughter under the bus!

I think no ill of Bristol. I'm glad she is keeping the baby and I hope she will lead a wonderful life.

The issue is Sarah. She has put her own ambitions and desire for fame and power ahead of her own family and children. The needs of Trig should have been enough for her to pass on the VP offer. That she also knew of her daughter's pregnancy and still accepted the nomination offer just shows how cold and self centered she really is.

I heard someone on CNN (one of CNN's own) make the statement that this "proves that abstinence doesn't work". THose exact words. At least you poster have seen its "abstienence ONLY based education" that doesn't work.

But I thought to myself, for a CNN journalist./ reporter to not even think about the implications of what she was saying or had just said, was a hillarious thing.

If abstinence does not work, then EVERY women will get preganant even the young virgins and even those who never have sex at all. Laughed my ass off at that one.

It would seem that if abstinence based education worked, there would never have been an unwanted nor un-wed pregnancy in the Christian, Islamic, or Judian faith churches.

Re: The VP Candidates Family
OH SHIT!

Are you a product of the McCarthy Era? That was their argument. Of course J Edgar Hoover who ran the FBI for 30 plus years was the biggest transvestite in Washington and he had the dirt and the goods on EVERYONE. But that's another story...

The president having a male lover or a mistress does not mean that either one is more likely than not to be a spy! There are plenty of people who get turned on by power and that is the most powerful office in the free world! I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands of people (both male and female) who would happily bounce in the hay with whomever is in the White House. Frankly, considering the fact that the job has some SERIOUS stress with it, the guy having a great and varied sex life would probably be good for the nation, rather than harm it.

Just for the record - gay men are not any more likely to be spies, agents, or insurrectionists than anyone else is! Someone once said "Being Gay is NOT for Sissies" and from personal experience I'd be inclined to agree with him! But I'm fortunate. I'm one of those gay men who no one ever knows is gay until and unless I tell them or wind up having sex with them. I'm one of those guys who gets hit on by women all the time. I'm single (legally) have my own income, a great education, am a professional, own a couple of homes, and drive nice cars and wear expensive suits all day at work. I love kids, and have a grown daughter of my own. She's working on her Masters now. Oh, and I'm a little over 6'2 and still have all my own hair (thank God!) and weigh about 195. I also work out four or five times a week with a trainer. I've had girlfriends tell me I'm the PERFECT husband candidate for a divorced or past 34 and still single woman. Well, almost perfect. Except I'd probably be more inclined to screw her ex boyfriend than screw her. But that's a minor detail for some of them! Trust me, I have a whole book full of "straight" buddies who are single and I'm constantly setting them up with women who've come on to me! (Hell, a couple of times, they've even married - so my "fix-up" record isn't too shabby in the straight world, either.)

So no... it's not going to render the president or any other high office holder any more likely to be shaking up with a spy regardless of which gender his lover might be. Besides, in this day and age, we've now won the right to marry. So the next step may be a gay president. Hell, he couldn't do any worse than anyone else has lately, and might well do a lot better! Now that's an IDEA worth pursuing, in my opinion!

How about Anderson Cooper for President? At least he knows who's who in the middle east and can even pronounce their names correctly! And the guy has been around CNN and on the air for years and never been touched by a hint of scandal or impropriety. That's a far better track record than most of the recent candidates can claim! FAR BETTER!

The fact that a president has a mistress (or a male lover for that matter) is NONE OF MY BUSINESS!
But, doesn't that scenario make the president more susceptible to things like...blackmail - or what if the president's lover is a spy? Are there national security implications to this type of behavior? Pillow talk can be dangerous.

I agree that what goes on behind closed doors is no one's business - however, is there not a different standard for certain roles? If you have an affair, is that going to impact many people if your lover threatens you? Probably not - but it's not the same thing for certain office holders.

Is that fair? Of course not - but then again, one chooses to run for office of their own free will - and should understand the responsibility that comes with that office. And, of course, life is not fair, anyway ;)

Re: The VP Candidates Family
My opinion of the "cigar incident" is that I didn't see the video! When was it released and can you send me a copy?

PLUHEEZE! Who cares? If you've never played with a lover, (everything from finger paints to whipped creme, honey, and on occasion Crisco) then you've missed out on a LOT! There is more to sex than just a missionary position with your eyes closed, honey. A LOT more!

I've had a cigar case in my pocket holding some VERY costly cuban cigars that had been near or in some of my lovers more private places, and frankly, enjoyed the hell out of smoking them with a bunch of "straight laced" good old boys who'd have been appalled if they knew what the scent and taste was helping me to recall! Those guys thought it was just the $80 cigar and the good brandy that was making me smile! Trust me. The brandy had very little to do with it!

Adultery is a private matter between spouses. Legally it's a breach of contractual commitment. In our country it's also grounds for a divorce in most states. But lots of people stray and come back. And then stop straying. For some men (particularly) shifting from "screwing everything you can get your hands on" to "one person for the rest of your life" is a huge transition and one that is not made easily. I know. I've failed that one a couple of times myself! The fact is that most men cheat a few times in their marriages. The key is to not fall in love for the "other woman" and destroy your home in the process. Same thing goes for women.

OH, and for both genders - don't come home and "confess" your sins to clear your shitty conscious at the cost of your partners sanity. That is one sin that if you are not caught in the act should go with you to your grave! Keeping your mouth shut and trying to be a good spouse is about the only way you can atone for that one. Confession should be between you and God or you and your shrink. But your spouse sitting home while you were out getting some strange stuff is the one who does NOT EVER need to know the details of your darkest hours. Confession may be good for your soul but I promise you it will be lousy for hers! (or his!)

The sexual preferences, and activities of the candidates themselves should be off limits unless and until they cross into areas of illegality (ie: Minors, Prostitutes, Non-consensual sex, etc.) and the sexual lives and deeds of their minor children should NEVER be used as fodder for the selling of news papers or commercial time on the broadcast news. The fact that a president has a mistress (or a male lover for that matter) is NONE OF MY BUSINESS! I don't care and don't want to know! His wife and her attorney may be interested in those facts, but as a citizen, I am not!

You are on shaky ground there. The sexual preferences of candidates are shoved underground. NPI. There is no way an openly gay candidate could run for the office of president. Most gay men and women do not break the law.

As for adultery, homo or hetero, it IS an issue of character. Suddenly you think that should be off the table? Tell me, what was your opinion on the cigar incident?

It's funny because of how easily this could blow up in these lefties' faces. A party running on a tolerance platform starts employing misogynistic attack methods on a teenage girl, the same party that's relying on the feminist vote to carry them through what shapes to be a tight election. The feminist vote that's already shaky because of an ugly, drawn-out power struggle between Clinton and Obama.

But no, go right ahead and attack a girl for having a kid conceived out of wedlock while supporting a presidential candidate that was *gasp* also conceived out of wedlock. Hope you don't alienate too many feminists along the way, but hey, you don't need their votes right?

Hey Jarha.

Don't know about others opinions. I'm not in their heads or their lives.
One thing I do find interesting is many are accusing her of not being involved in her family. But, she's only been Gov for what about 2 years? By the time a kid is 11-12 their personality is pretty much set and there's not much one can do if a 16-17yo goes out on a date and gets knocked up, EVEN a parent who stays at home all the time can't stop that.

Plus, doesn't a Governor have like an army of people who work for them and help them, including raise their kids, even a MALE Governor? Though I think a mother and child, or father and child bonding, stay at home or be with them a LOT for the first couple years of the kids life is very important for the childs development. if you have a nanny caring for the child during working hours, the kid is getting the same one-one development, maybe not the same bonding, but development, yes.

One thing I do agree with is that sex-ed should be taught by someone to the child at a reasonable age. Condoms and birth control are modern valid uses and shouldn't be ignored during teaching. If you want to teach abstinance only, then do not be surprised by the occasional shot-gun wedding or early birth. This was fairly common earlier in human history up until the invention of the pill. SO, for a poster to complain about what should be taught is valid, IMHO. For one to consider if Palin has enough experience or not, is also valid. She's in politics and these are to real issues, education and experience.

Re: The VP Candidates Family
This is not about Palin's daughter, or the fact that she had a baby out of wedlock, or that the daughter is again pregnant.

Who cares? That is the Palin family business.

The problem is that the governor of Alaska LIED about being pregnant, and who knows what else.

Lied about delivering a baby.

Lied about being the mother of a child, that she is not the mother to.

LIER, LIER, PALIN PANTS ON FIRE!

Re: The VP Candidates Family
Unpin this it makes GLP look like a bunch of hypocrite babies.

Just look at the numerous Michelle Obama threads seen here let alone the very real chance that some KKK muther fker is plotting right now to kill them.......

If you dont want your family dragged through the mud get out of the way and dont ask for the spot light. Until politics and our culture in general changes this is the way it stands.

To see the little woo hoo cry babies..........now going off makes me laugh.......
It doesn't matter who I m it's who U R so ChoOse
