A stunning light display over Saturn has stumped scientists who say it behaves unlike any other planetary aurora known in our solar system.

The blueish-green glow was found over the ringed planet's north polar region just like Earth's northern lights.

It was discovered by the infrared instruments on NASA's Cassini spacecraft.

'We've never seen an aurora like this elsewhere,' said Tom Stallard, a scientist working with Cassini data at the University of Leicester.

'This aurora covers an enormous area across the pole. Our current ideas on what forms Saturn's aurora predict that this region should be empty, so finding such a bright aurora here is a fantastic surprise.'

Auroras are caused by charged particles streaming along the magnetic field lines of a planet into its atmosphere.

Particles from the sun cause Earth's auroras. Many, but not all, of the auroras at Jupiter and Saturn are caused by particles trapped within the magnetic environments of those planets.

Jupiter's main auroral ring is caused by interactions in Jupiter's magnetic environment and remains constant in size. Saturn's main aurora is caused by the solar wind, and changes size dramatically as the wind varies. However, the newly observed aurora at Saturn doesn't fit into either category.

The new infrared aurora appears in a region hidden from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. Cassini observed it when the spacecraft flew near Saturn's polar region.

In infrared light, the aurora sometimes fills the region from around 82 degrees north all the way over the pole. This new aurora is also constantly changing, even disappearing within a 45 minute-period.

'There is something special and unforeseen about this planet's magnetosphere and the way it interacts with the solar wind and the planet's atmosphere,' Cassini scientist Nick Achilleos from the University College London said.

The Cassini-Huygens mission is a cooperative project of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency.

Following the Fifth NIGHT large groups of people will in the Sixth DAY break away from hierarchical control and guided by their intuition find a path towards increased wholeness. This is when the hierarchies will really start to break down, probably largely in a chaotic way. Yet, this is exactly the kind of chaos that is needed for the recreation of an Enlightened world. Creativity is born out of chaos and if you think more deeply about it you realize that there is no linear way from today’s world (2004) to the Enlightened (2011). Instead the enlightened world can only emerge out of a series of transformative pulses, including periods of destruction, such as the Fifth NIGHT. The paradox to understand is that the very process that seems to break down the world economy and political dominance is also the one that paves the way for Enlightenment. The emergence of a fully enlightened collective state of consciousness can only thrive in a global consciousness that is balanced. This is because the imbalance that has been dominating humanity for some 5000 years has had its direct cause the dualist frame of consciousness that was ruling throughout this time.

Oh yeah, I bet you get a good giggle out of it.. have you tried to understand it, as a "new ager" understands the current version of reality we find ourselves trapped in, with an open-mind?

I do think though that people might just finally wake up enough to realise that most of what we make as false idols, political leaders, neat things, famous people, the economy as being just agreed upon illusions. We may even kick ourselves in the butt for not focusing on what is really important, and it may be a hard pill to swallow, but I hope we do.


This might be a dumb question, but I'm generally interested in the thoughts... what IS really important? To you.

I have been having the urge to create lately... something I find very connected to my child like self, before the attachments of adulthood and all it's social strictures, etc. I think this new day is going to be very fruitful in the fun department!

2011 and 2012

The 6th Day represents the dawning of a new direction and a new era, 'the shift from chaos to the enlightened world.' During the 6th Day (November 12, 2008 to November 7, 2009) large numbers of people will move toward a more enlightened, global consciousness. - Carl Calleman

Before we begin a discussion of what the 6th Day is, let's address the subject of the two end-dates of the Mayan Calendar that are being discussed in Western culture right now. During the Classical Era - c. 250 CE to 900 CE (the height of the Mayan culture) - mind-boggling time calculations were calculated by Mayan calendric wizards that far surpass any time calculations in modern times (and they worked without computers or telescopes). These Mayan Time-Shamans calculated eclipses in our current day to within minutes of accuracy. They built pyramids that were encoded with their astronomical knowledge of time and time cycles. To this day, there are Day Keepers in the hills of Guatemala who keep the ancient count of days stretching back thousands of years.

chichen itzaOne of the key concepts of the Mayan Calendar is known as The Long Count. The Long Count began on August 11, 3114 BC (some scholars say August 13th) and it will end on December 21, 2012. The beginning of the Long Count ushered in the historical era (when we began keeping written records), the rise and fall of empires, the development of civilization, the building of cities, and the flourishing of cultures.

With the development of the Long Count, the Mayan Time Shamans looked ahead into the future and calculated that the Earth would align with the Galactic Center on December 21, 2012. (Modern science tells us the exact alignment occurred in 1998, but when you consider the length of time within which they were calculating, they were really only about 15 minutes off:)They ended their calendar, which spanned thousands of years, on this date - December 21, 2012. It was kind of strange to have a calendar END all of sudden; and so many people have projected Armageddon-like ideas onto what 2012 means. I won't go into that here. I just want to point out that the 2012 end-date of the Mayan Calendar is steeped in an esteemed heritage, based on centuries of indigenous caretaking. It cannot be ignored.

The other end-date currently debated in the Western world is the end-date proposed by Carl Calleman, a Swedish scientist who many (including me) respect as someone who "broke the code" of the Mayan Calendar to a new level. Barbara Hand Clow - a Cherokee Elder who is one of my teachers - stated (I was in the audience) that Carl Calleman has proven the existence of God with his theories and that he should receive the Nobel Prize if his theories end up being accurate.

hunab kuWell, we'll know in 2011; Calleman has calculated an end-date for the Mayan Calendar of October 28, 2011. I will describe his theories in some detail in the next section of this newsletter. There is some contention between the various Mayan end-date scholars (I list them below in a Bibliography) concerning Calleman's "audacity" in changing the end-date. He is after all from SWEDEN (i.e. not indigenous!). His system has much validity, however; and I recommend that you read the works I have listed below to make up your own mind, if you have any curiosity about this subject.

As for me, I embrace both end-dates; they both have significance. For me, the 2011 end-date has more to do with the mapped-out evolution of consciousness as described below; and the 2012 end-date has more to do with an epochal celestial alignment with the Galactic Center - that signals the Turning of the Ages and the end of a 26,000-year cycle. Both are valid, and I am ok honoring both of them. Walking that polarity tight-rope - which seems to be what we are all asked to do in all areas lately.

Thoughts from the Mind of God

NOTE: The rest of this newsletter contains information from Carl Calleman's theories, either articulated by Calleman himself, or explained by Ian Lungold or Barbara Hand Clow (both of whom are proponents of Calleman's system). This information is not the traditional indigenous Mayan perspective, which espouses the 2012 end-date. As I mentioned above, the 2012 end-date has been held in consciousness and Truth for thousands of years and I recommend that you hold it in the same way, while also exploring the radical new system proposed by Carl Calleman.

The Mayans were obsessed with time and lived in a Universe of Holy Time. Their calculations of time were based on a "divine year" of 360 days, not the 365.25-day cycle of the Gregorian calendar. (The Egyptians and other spiritually advanced ancient cultures also used the 36-day calendar to tune into Sacred Time.)

2012Calleman says that the Mayan Calendar is a chronology of the emergence of Divine Light within the entire galaxy, which - of course - includes humanity. He says that the Mayan Calendar describes a process of creation from a time when no solar systems or even galaxies existed. This is Holy Time, not mechanical time or even astronomical/astrological time (which we track from our perspective here on earth). Calleman says that the Mayan Calendar applies to the evolution of all life in this galaxy, not just to the evolution of life on earth.

There is a Stele (carved rock) in the Mayan city of Coba which contains a long list of dates. Understanding this Stele holds the key to the meaning of the Mayan Calendar. Calleman, a biologist by training, looked at the dates (the ones that were labeled by the Maya) and realized that they corresponded almost exactly with the known (i.e. modern scientific dating of the) evolution of the universe - dating back to the Big Bang 16.4 billion years ago.

BTW - Here's something mind-blowing: the stele includes even longer periods of time. It has dates that are not labeled which extend up to a million billion times the known age of the universe! The Mayans were truly time-travelers.

But what caught Calleman's attention with the stele was the 'coincident' similarity between the labeled dates on the stele and the scientific dating of the various stages of evolution: Cellular, Mammalian, Familial, Tribal, Regional, National, Planetary, Galactic, Universal. Calleman calls these the 9 Underworlds. We are currently in the Galactic Underworld, which began on January 4, 1999 and lasts for 12.8 years. We are only one 'cycle' away from the final Underworld, the Universal which begins on February 11, 2011 and lasts only 260 days.

accelerationIan Lungold writes, "This pattern does have an acceleration built into it. Each cycle of Creation contains the same amount of advancement and change but each cycle runs 20 times faster. The same amount of change that happened in 1.26 billion years of the Cellular cycle now occurs in 12.8 years or 360 days." Yeah, ever get the feeling that time is speeding up? Here is one explanation of that sensation we all have these days.

The Mayan Calendar then is 'the Time of the invisible universe' not of anything physical - including the sun, the planets or even the stars. Astronomical physical bodies explain cyclical repeating phenomenon, not continual ascending evolution. This Holy Time pulses from 'The One Reality' and, according to Calleman, we are scheduled to 'arrive' at full enlightened consciousness on October 28, 2011. This will be "a return to the Dreamtime" a perfect balance of polarities - within our brains, within our society, within the planet (the Global Brain) and in the galaxy itself. He writes, "only the divine reality is real, eternal; the material world is but an illusion."

9 underworlds of creationCalleman created a pyramid model for the quickening cycles of time within the Mayan Calendar. Within each of the 9 Underworlds, a cycle of 7 DAYS and 6 NIGHTS occurs. 6 Days plus 7 nights = 13 heavens. Each Day or Night is "a consciousness package," an infusion of Light into humans which creates a steady progression to higher dimensions of consciousness. This in turn causes all humans to evolve into beings with multi-dimensional consciousness. The 13 Heavens - step-by-step - lead to the emergence of a brain increasingly better equipped to receive information from the Cosmos. We see human creativity during the Days alternating with internal change and integration during the Nights. At the beginning of each DAY, beings with significantly more developed brains emerge, sometimes quite suddenly.

Here is a beautiful idea: each new Heaven is a new Thought from the Mind of God. (As Neo in the Matrix would say: Whoa.)

According to Calleman, this pyramid model is a time schedule for the descent of the Kingdom of Heaven to earth, the return of Christ Consciousness, and a map of evolution through time. Calleman says that when we reach the end-date he has calculated, "time will no longer be what it used to be." We will pass through the eye of the needle into "no time," also known as THE NOW.

In this system, the Mayan Calendar is a pattern of Creation, or better put, an ACTION PLAN coming from the mind of the Creator. According to Barbara Hand Clow, this action plan is 'managed' by the Lords of Time who dwell in what she identifies as the 9th Dimension a.k.a. the GalacticCenter. And there is nothing we can do to stop this accelerating march toward multi-dimensional consciousness. We can co-create with it, or we can turn it inward in a devolved way and implode. But the Truth is: Evolve we will. Evolving we are. (As Yoda would say:)

Ian Lungold says that "the deck is stacked" for more and more Light, more and more expanded brain capacity, and more and more higher consciousness - as well as the descent of Heaven on Earth and the entry into the Dreamtime (the Now) in our daily life. Creation is on our side and, as I quote Calleman below, the Beast of Materialism cannot prevail.

Keep in mind one of the fundamentals of Calleman's system: the Galactic Underworld we are in now is all about balancing the over-emphasis on the left-brain or masculine aspects of Humanity in the previous cycle. This means that our right brains (the feminine/creative aspect) and the Eastern hemisphere of the planet (i.e. the right hemisphere of the Global Brain) will be stimulated by the incoming Light of the Days of the Galactic Underworld. As a result, the inspiration of the Galactic Underworld will LITERALLY come from the East (the Eastern hemisphere of the globe) - i.e. from India and China for example. Many of our most profound teachings (and lessons) will come from the East between the years of 1999 to 2011.

as above so belowIn regard to the economy (a hot topic right now) Calleman points out that the Euro was launched in Europe on THE EXACT DAY of the beginning of the Galactic Underworld - January 4, 1999. The Euro, he is quick to point out, is not backed by gold (which means it is not real. Really - it's not.) The U.S. Dollar is also not backed by gold (and is not worth the paper it is printed on). Calleman says that the Days of the Galactic Underworld (such as the 6th Day we are entering now) will "bring an end to the world dominance of the West" and that the Euro will strengthen during the Days, solidifying Europe's role as a "buffer between the East and the West."

Interestingly, Calleman says that "the expressions developed before the 3rd Day of any Underworld (in this case, December 15, 2002 - December 9, 2003) are really very rudimentary compared to what is to come." This means that at the 6th Day we are beginning to see more blossoming, more maturity in all that is evolving in consciousness. And yet, it won't be until Day 7 (November 3, 2010 - October 28, 2011) that the full flower will be apparent. The first buds, it is said, emerge during the 5th Day; and that when we look back over the cycle we will see that what emerged then (November 24, 2006 - November 18, 2007) will be seen as the pivotal evolutionary developments from the perspective of the 7th Day. In a previous cycle the 5th Day was when Christianity and other Light-filled religions first appeared in the world.

In November 2007, we entered the Fifth Night of the Mayan Calendar. The 5th Night is governed by the Lord of Darkness. Here's the good news: the 5th Night is over! Woo whoo! Celebrate! Why is this such good news? The 5th Night was a one-year period (the year 2008) that paralleled the years encompassing World Wars I and II, Hitler, Stalin, and the Great Depression (and other lovely things like that). Prior 5th Night cycles include the Dark Ages (another fun time in history) and the Fall of Rome (a party for all involved). SO it's over! The worst of the entire Galactic Underworld (which began in 1999 and ends in 2011) is now behind us.

Both Calleman and Ian Lungold predicted that an economic collapse would occur in the 5th Night, and... um... it did. But, again, the good news is, the darkness won't be as thick after today. We can all take heart in this; I know I do.

5th night integrationCalleman pointed out that the 5th Night in a previous cycle (the National Underworld) brought the collapse of the Roman economy and in another cycle (the Planetary Underworld) the Great Depression. Thus, he predicted a "major economic downturn" during the 5th Night of our current cycle (the Galactic Underworld). He wrote: "The 5th Night always means a last destructive attempt of the forces seeking a return to rule. We can expect a last violent assault by the forces seeking a return to the materialist values of" the previous Underworld. Sound familiar?

Ian Lungold writes: "The 5th Night is the darkest period of each cycle. In a plant's life this is the growth of the bud. In your life it was puberty. In human history this has been a time of great physical hardship or major conflicts. The Illonian Ice Age, Neanderthals going extinct, Rome falling and WWII are glaring examples."

Below I have provided all of the dates of the Days and Nights within the Galactic Underworld. Underneath each date, is a sentence provided by Mayan teacher Ian Lungold. Pay attention to these labels. I find them to be quite accurate. For instance, for the 5th Night (which just ended) he wrote THE END OF MANUFACTURED LACK. Ian Lungold is no longer with us in physical form, having crossed over in November 2005. What a loss it is for all of us that he is no longer with us in body! I never knew him but I miss him nonetheless.

For the 6th Day, Mr. Lungold has applied this label: "Consciousness Surpasses Technology." I, for one, am very excited to see how this plays out over the next year.

levity = levitation:)P.S. the last Night of the Galactic Underworld, the 6th Night - from Nov 8, 2009 to Nov 2, 2010 - won't be nearly as dark as the 5th Night, which is the darkest time of the entire cycle. Ian Lungold says of the 6th Night: "Bliss, we will need the practice." Sounds like a plan.

As for where what it's been like for us since August 15, 2008 till now (the turbulent time period that encompassed the stock market crash and a mind-blowing historical election) Barbara Hand Clow says that during this time "we reached a critical mass similar to when amphibians first went onto land. We moved to a new ecology but we have no clue what's going on." Yeah, that pretty much sums it up! She explains that Calleman's theory shows that mice continue to be mice and crocodiles continue to be crocodiles, but "humans have been continuously evolving." She says that the arrival at each new stage is an "emergency" and that the recent bump up these past few months was "such a radical change in our brains that basically we have no idea what's going on." Ah, she certainly understands how it feels! No wonder my brain felt so dang weird last week (smiles)
A Renaissance
In the Image and Likeness

On the Sixth day: God commands the land to bring forth living creatures (seventh command); He makes wild beasts, livestock and reptiles. He then creates Man and Woman in His "image" and "likeness" (eighth command). They are told to "be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it." Humans and animals are given plants to eat. The totality of creation is described by God as "very good." - Genesis 1:1-2:3

shineThe 6th day begins today and lasts until November 7, 2009. The 6th Day is the Eleventh Heaven (the 11th Heaven, has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?) of the Galactic Underworld. It is associated with "Flowering" and the goddess of birth. The symbol for the 6th Day is the Scarlet Macaw. The 6th Day holds the energy of rebirth and optimism. (Note: this does dovetail with the increase of hope as evidenced in the recent presidential election. Confidence ratings are at record levels among Americans as we stand on the edge of new leadership, dawning within the 6th Day.)

As with all the Days of the cycle, we will see a Renaissance - an incoming of more Light - during Day 6. "A Renaissance of advanced unifying synthesis." Calleman speaks of this time as a shifting point, from chaos and upheaval to a more enlightened global consciousness. The highest level of expression of this forward growth will occur in Day 7 when the highest truth and most expanded consciousness blooms.

emergentHere are some examples of shifts occuring during the 6th Day of previous cycles. In the realm of communication: (1) the first book 'The Diamond Sutra' was printed in China (868 CE); (2) the first public TV broadcast occurred in the UK (1936); and (3) the first color TV broadcast occurred in the (US 1954). In the realm of religion: we saw the expansion of Christianity (the second wave) to northern and eastern europe. The first wave of this expansion occurred in the 5th day, and the third wave occured in the 7th day of that cycle. Another glimpse of the energies of the 6th Day reveals the time period from 1954-1972. This was the awakening of the 1960's, a cultural revolution which still reverberates to this day. The astrology of our times shows that the 60's are coming 'round again (Saturn opposite Uranus); and Calleman's Mayan Calendar system confirms this.

The 6th Day is the "Proto-form of the highest expression of new consciousness" of the cycle. In this case, that would be Galactic Consciousness. One of the things Calleman predicts is that "Galactification" will occur between 1999 and 2011, so that "individual nations in the traditional sense of the word will hardly exist." Calleman refers to this trend as "divinely guided anarchy."

fire the gridWhat's crazy about this "Galactification"? Isn't this the exact process that many (the majority) of us fear the most - the coming together of a Global Culture, complete with a Global Government? We resist it ferociously. It makes our skin crawl doesn't it? If you don't know what I'm talking about, do the words New World Order mean anything to you? This is a very important area for all of us to address: is Globalization inevitable as an evolutionary force? If so, how can we avoid the nefarious undertones of 'the New World Order' and instead create a culture of peaceful, democratic Oneness based on sound leadership and an educated populace? This is surely something we need to add to the Aquarian think-tank discussions going on in the heavens right now.

Calleman also states that the 6th Day brings a "tense co-existence of East and West, and between new spirituality and the remnants of the global materialistic power."

Ian Lungold describes the 6th Day as "a period of Enlightenment. This is the time of flowers for the plant. For you it was adolescence. In human history this was the creation of the first tools, the first attempts at agriculture and constructed shelter, the Renaissance, and most recently, the flower children movement of the sixties."

It is the dawn of a new day, the 6th Day, a new higher octave infusion of Light into our brains, our hearts, our cells, our DNA - and into the Global Brain of the Being Known As Earth. And the 7th Day is right around the corner. Calleman writes, "Our destiny will not be fully experienced before Day 7 of the Universal Underworld - which begins on October 8, 2011 and ends on October 28, 2011." The 7th Day of the next Underworld lasts only 20 days! Calleman says that "this is when the purpose of Creation is fulfilled." Talk about a supersonic burst of evolution! Hold onto your hats and buckle up:)

Jose Arguelles - [link to www.lawoftime.org] - Jose Arguilles wrote the "The Mayan Factor" in 1987 and brought the world's attention to the approaching Harmonic Convergence in August of that year. Rather than read the book, I recommend that you view Arguilles' website (here is a bio of Arguilles: [link to www.13moon.com] Arguilles espouses a 360+5-day (13-moon) calendar, which is not much different in substance to our Gregorian Calendar, except for the emphasis on 13 moons.

John Major Jenkins - [link to alignment2012.com] Recommended: "Maya Cosmogenesis 2012" (1998) Jenkins is a brilliant mind, who began studying the Mayan Calendar in his late teens. His ground-breaking hypothesis is described in "Cosmogenesis": that the Mayan Calendar end-date of December 21, 2012 corresponds to the alignment of our solar system with the Center of the Milky Way galaxy.

Carl Johann Calleman - [link to www.calleman.com] - Recommended: "The Mayan Calendar & The Transformation of Consciousness" (1994) Calleman's earlier work "Solving the Greatest Mystery of Our time: The Mayan Calendar," published in 1990, created a huge breakthrough and buzz among Mayan Calendar philosophers. It also created a schism. Calleman is a brilliant biologist who many (including myself) feel "cracked the code" of the Calendar. Calleman also asserts that the Maya got the end-date wrong and has re-assigned a new end-date (October 28, 2011). This has not gone over well with many indigenous Maya, and created a war of words between Calleman and Jenkins.

Ian Xel Lungold - [link to www.mayanmajix.com] - Recommended: The DVD's on the website are an excellent resource for understanding Carl Calleman's theories. Ian Lungold taught Calleman's theories brilliantly. Sadly, Lungold died in November of 2005. The DVD's he recorded are a priceless treasure trove of Mayan Calendar insight. Highly recommended.

Barbara Hand Clow - [link to www.handclow2012.com] - Recommended: "The Mayan Code" (2007). Hand-Clow's highly-respected work as a new-consciousness author spans decades and she has always been closely affiliated with the Mayan Calendar through her Pleiadian connections. She was deeply inspired by Calleman's work - even coming out in favor of the 2011 end-date - and is now teaching Calleman's theories in all of her workshops. She is all-inclusive, however, and still honors Jenkins and Arguilles work. "The Mayan Code" was just published this year and is the most cutting-edge look at our understanding of 2012 available to us at this point.

So far I'm finding the whole 6th day to be very disorientating. My moods have been up and down very rapidly, it has been mentioned in other posts about an increase in suicidal behavior. I'm definately seeing why. Don't worry I'm not going to be one of them but I can feel the difference from a month ago.

I'm really wondering if the economy will be "saved" or if it will totally collapse. I think if it gets saved, it will just put off the inevitable collapse. What does everyone else think?
