Raising my Cholesterol! Anyone else?
I've been studying the whole cholesterol thing and I have found that having low cholesterol increases the risk of having gastrointestinal infections and a cloudiness of the mind, among other things.

Few years ago I had a cholesterol check, they were impressed, my cholesterol was so low. They said, "Whatever you are doing, keep doing it."

Interesting. I was eating under 800 calories a day, lots of aspartame and epherdrine. I was thin and hot and all that, but I was killing myself and the docs were encouraging my effects.

That year, when the docs were saying I was so healthy, I got infection after infection, leading to a surgery that absolutely changed my life.

So... I've been on Niacin to lower my cholesterol and I've been ill. So now, I am raising my cholesterol, because having a higher cholesterol protects us from gastrointestinal infections (among other things, including mental attentiveness).

So what do you think?

Eat all the good stuff you want.

The body will scour all "bad" cholesterol in the arteries during a good fast.

Seriously, reasonable diet, moderate exorcize, and a week fast at least a couple times a year. And you'll never have heart disease.
"And though I believe in the ineffable glory of God, and though I might have experienced the undeniable reality of the Deity, and though I may know the secrets of the ages, these do not fulfill the Love in my heart. I don't really watch my cholesterol...the way I figure is that we all gotta die sometime of something, and I am sure as hell not gonna die and then then be thinking in the afterlife, "damn, I wish I had ate that brownie"...LOL

Seriously, though, I do agree with the cleansing of the arteries when you fast, and I also eat foods that are known to help reduce cholesterol levels naturally...

I was a vegetarian for years - but never should have been (Type O neg). I gradually got thinner, weaker, more susceptible to infection, more forgetful and unfocused - and lost a great deal of my stamina.

So I resumed meat eating, focusing on high-fat red meats like beef, lamb and wild game. I dropped ALL white flour products and milk from my diet - replacing them with green vegetables, but eating all the meat that I want. I'm now 165 lbs at 6'0", feeling better and healthier than ever, cholesterol perfect - and with enough energy to raise a 2.5 year old boy at 48 years old. So, all I can say is that eating a lot of high-cholesterol bearing foods is not for everyone, but if you limit refined starches, it can be the perfect diet..

I've been focusing on eating the good stuff organic, low fat and all that, but having done some research and having history repeat in my body, I'm learning (through both research and history) that the cholesterol lowering thing may be a huge conspiracy.

Cholesterol is important, even if you lower what you are consuming your body will make up for what you have lost. What is this thing in our bodies that make up for what we have not consumed? Interesting.

Re: Raising my Cholesterol! Anyone else?
The body uses cholesterol for lots of things, including making hormones. One theory is that as hormone levels drop, more cholesterol is produced. High cholesterol may also be a response to inflammation, so increasing omega 6 consumption could help.

Those who push red rice yeast may or may not realize it's essentially the same ingredient as statin drugs.

High cholesterol has little bearing on death from cardiovascular causes.

That's what I'm talking about! There is a disconnect in the world... I feel great when I eat just meat and veggies, but when I introduced all those refined (supposedly) good for us things, I descend.

My cholesterol about 6 years ago was 120, I was starving myself and living off processed foods and everything chemical and I almost died. I started lowering my cholesterol again and again I began the familiar slide into unhealth.

So now I am eating crap, carbs, fried meat and other crap, just to get the numbers up. We are living an illusion and we we just believe and follow what we are told, we are sheep.

I just try to eat as much fresh stuff as possible and not think of cholesterol. As soon as they say that word, the next words include some drug name that 'helps'...fuuuuck that.

I was just thinking the other day, actually, that they say some people are carb types and some are protein types. Well, what if there is a FAT type?

I had a gripy gall bladder a couple of weeks ago and decided to do a cleanse.

Apparently, the gall bladder can get backed up. And, I was having stool symptoms of an underactive gall bladder and not eating much fat.

After the cleanse, I had a yen for really fatty food, so since that was what my body wanted I ate it.

As a result, my digestion is marvellous now, as if my gall bladder needed more fat to work on and was getting backed up because I wasn't eating enough fat.

Plus, we make hormones from fat, according to Dr. Mercola.

When you think the Inuit used to eat whale blubber and do very well on it, I think there is a lot of nonsense talked about fat.

I stay away from processed fats like margarine and corn oils, though.

If you eat "good" fats, you'll be just fine. That means NO margarines, NO hydrogenated oils. Instead, use saturated fats such as lard and butter and oils such as olive and coconut.

Yea, we go to a farm to buy our meats. Still taking milk in my coffee but no other crap. But after lowering my cholesterol for a couple months, I am taking in crap to raise it, my jeans may not fit in a few days, but I am already feeling better.

As far as prescriptions, dumped those at the beginning of the year and after 12 years of HRT it's been a bit rough, but I'm coming out of it.

Yeah, I know, live and learn right? Back then the goal was to be a size 4, now the goal is to feel good, despite the clothing number.

I fired my doctor a couple years ago, felt much better and got myself off all those prescriptions. Six of them after my last surgery....jeeze and some they said I would have to take forever...forever!!!

All those prescriptions are gone now, thank God.

Type A is the natural-born vegetarian (I interviewed Dr. Peter D'Adamo for a magazine I wrote for - he is the author of Eat Right For Your Type - this is what he said) - but with type A neg, you may need to eat some lighter meats and fish. I personally think that some evolved proteins are a must for all humans..

Yep, I stopped. I feel better and I think Niacin may be good for some, but we are different, an aspect that docs don't seem to see.

I'm off, feeling better and working to increase my cholesterol, ate country fried steak tonight, never would have done that before the research, but I'm needing some cholesterol.

Good luck Turtles.

This reminds me I need to make an apt to get my test results (physical). I seriously dislike dr.s too.

I snack on proteins. Meat, nuts and p'butter mostly. Yum. I just learned that a serving a walnuts has more omegas than salmon. Love my real butter - yum.

Re: Raising my Cholesterol! Anyone else?
chronically low (below 160) cholesterol, or hypocholesterolemia, tends to be hereditary, as it is in my family.

my cholesterol is always at 125... it does not change whether I am on an extremely low fat diet or on something like say... The Atkins diet, which is extremely high fat... I've been tested after being on both diets for months, and no change... always 125. My doctor tells me how jealous he is, lol.

hypocholesterolemia has been linked to low serotonin levels as well, which may well account for the mental fogginess you describe, Turtle. It can also lead to depression, etc. (see link below):
