We didn´t steal it, we took it. There are times when I wonder whether it was a good idea, but, on the whole, I think the positives outweigh the negatives.

No. Mexico wanted to populate their Northern Territory. They lured US people there to build up the area with promises that taxes, etc. certain things would not change. Then once the US folks became prosperous, the Mexican gov´t started acting like all gov´ts do and wanted to annex it - so to speak.

lol - YEAH....RIIIIIGHT... let´s not forget that when challenged, the people here in the U.S. kick some serious ass. It will never happen. The only way the U.S. falls is if there is a global catastrophe...and even if that happens, we will rebuild.

After the Mexican government went back on it´s offers the new "white" Mexicans rebelled in Texas and set up their own independent nation-the Republic of Texas. Ten years later they joined the United States as the state of Texas and gave up their sovereignty.

I never understood why they gave up their autonomy after fighting for it.
