Every project or group activity need leadership, from running a kindergarten to building a big airplane and, as someone, in the above already have stated when playing in a band.

In the context of freedom within society, the only thing you can do is to be creative, independent and become your own leader within set bounderies (obviously you can't just crown yourself to be the king of Texas - unless you want to end in a mental institution).

You are shifting responsibility (blame).

Leadership is not the problem. We are, each and every single one of us. (yes that includes the "leaders")

Leadership is born from the desire to be lead and the desire to be lead or ruled over is born from irresponsibility.

This is why there is so little freedom these days. We do not take responsibility for our actions and so others do in our place.

The idea of leadership is a virus which is hurting our mother earth.

The difference between leadership and dominance is like day and night.

The person who risks his life or sacrifices themself in some way for another is a leader.

The person who exploits another for personal gain may be dominant and powerful, but is as far from a leader as you can get.

You are confusing leadership with control. Natural leaders don't control anyone.

chain or top-down structure hierachy became obsolete more than two decades ago, it got replaced by the matrix structure where authority is both vertical and horizontal.

i always wonder when these new organisational structure will start being deployed/utilized. i think this can help alot in this regard.

also professional governments can help greatly in this regard.

also people need to start thinking for themselves-read being masters of their destiny.

in a matrix organisational structure, best ideas get priority in implementation regardless of where they came from in that organisation hierachy. e.g. best ideas could come from the operational or middle management level.

for intance GLP poster's suggestion that no bail-out cheques for the bank would get implemented since its a great bright idea but since USA government structure is a top-down approach/chain structure it will be ignored because its not supported by the top structure, e.g bush and the senate.

Matrix style management is a great thing. However, within the matrix there are still formal and informal leaders.

Leadership is necessary with the reasons as posted by several posters, another important reason is (specialized) knowledge. With the ever growing information it is impossible to posess all the knowledge and become our own leaders in every field. Nobody can have knowledge at the same time in accounting, marketing, engineering, entrepreneurship, IT, biology, history, medicines, farming etc. So it is necessary that certain people with the knowledge lead you to alternatives, opinion and solution. An entrepreneur may need an accountant to LEAD him to certain tax solution while a dentist can provide the solution for a teeth problem i.e. LEAD the patient to a solution.

A leaderless life is an utopia.

"AC", i think when you speak of specialized knowledge we are speaking the same thing when i talk of a professional government.

a professional government is run by experts and not clue-less politicians like its the case in the world today. an example of a professional government is that its ministries would be run by professional in that field. e.g. the ministry of finance would be run by a qualified accountant or an economist etc.

we just have to make sure that there counter-check measures in place like transparency, accountabilty etc.

The people "posing" as leaders in this world are not really "Leaders" they need to be ousted. Get rid of the fake leaders, eScrew, leave the inspiring, creative and natural born leaders alone, as humans need them to evolve and learn.

If you want to enhance the outcome of multiple participants as in a band or an Army, or a rowing team, a central manager of the event is necessary, for that outcome ONLY. Everybody goes home after words, no big deal.

The BIG problem that most folk stuck here on planet AlGore can't yet discern is that WE ARE ALL LEADERS. Just as, WE, as individuals, ARE GOVERNMENT.

We have totally forgotten that the agency, "The State" is our servant and instead, has become our master. It is this that needs reversing. We need to quit confusing The State, which is the main troublemaker, with Government, Which in Truth, is us.

We can no more eliminate leaders or government than we can outlaw breathing.

Use more care in selecting your choice of words and You just might spark a revolution.....

First, one should know why one is revolting against and what needs to replace the rot. Then it's time for change and a revolution. Time to dance. If there be a tune worthy of dancing to. Our Own?

Paper money is a debt obligation written by a stranger. This stranger has alot of power and it is really strange. The stranger convinced the society that these debt obligations hold great value which is very strange. Our society is very strange. Do I need debt obligations written by a stranger? If I say yes it will be very strange.

Do I need gold? Why would I need gold? What is better gold or wood? I can make a house out of wood but can I make a house out of gold? If I lived near a golden forest I would probably use gold to make a house. Untill I find a golden forest I will stick with wood. Let's return to the original question do I need gold? Can I eat gold?

Helping people is good. But how can I help people if they don't ask me for help? There are many problems in the world. Did I create them? Why should I try solving your problem and alter the natural course of events? The one who created the problem will eventually solve it. Why should I deny you the chance to solve your own problem? Do I have a problem? After writing this article I don't have any problems!
