A man arrested after the weekend stabbing of a Greyhound passenger was put on the bus in northwestern Ontario by provincial police about an hour before the attack, other passengers said on Monday.

Police will only say they are looking into reports the suspect boarded the bus during a stop in Wawa before the stabbing late Sunday afternoon.

"As of this point, we can confirm now that we were assisting the Michipicoten Township Police with this individual, but we'll have to look to them as to how they came into contact with this person," said Ontario Provincial Police Const. James Searle in Wawa.

Provincial police responded around 4:15 p.m. to a call made near the town of White River to reports that a 20-year-old passenger had been stabbed in the chest by a fellow traveller.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital in Wawa, before he was transferred to a hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, police said.

Police arrested a suspect near White River, a town about 300 kilometres north of Sault Ste. Marie, shortly after he left the bus.

"The suspect in this matter went to the front of the bus and asked to be let off. The bus driver opened the door ... and within a very short time thereafter, we were able to arrest the gentleman on the side of Highway 17." said Const. Searle.

David Wayne Roberts, 28, of Manitouwadge — roughly halfway between Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie — is charged with aggravated assault and breach of probation. He was scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Greyhound spokesperson Abby Wambaugh, speaking from Dallas, Texas, said the stabbing occurred about 15 kilometres east of White River.

"The bus originated in Toronto and was headed for its final destination of Winnipeg," she said.

Wambaugh said the company is "co-operating fully" with Ontario Provincial Police in the investigation.

Another bus was provided for the 13 remaining passengers to continue on their trip, according to the employee at the A&W, a frequent rest stop for Greyhound buses travelling through the region.

They continued to their next stop, Thunder Bay, after staying in Wawa until 2 a.m. while police finished their interviews, Searle said

Busted. The police put a man armed with a knife on a bus, he attacks someone, gets off the bus, and the police pick him up again. Pretty blatant that it was planned and executed by the police department/RCMP.

This is bullshit. There better be a REAL investigation into this
