America is teetering on the tipping point toward tyranny!

After Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin refused to 'do'
interviews shortly after being nominated, i wrote the following
post with the intention of sending it elsewhere for publication.
Then, i soon changed my mind due to her decision to sit for an
interview with ABC's Charles Gibson.

However, Palin is now, once again, prohibiting "freedom of the press"
in her current decision not to allow reporters access to her at the U.N.
when she meets with world leaders. She will allow photographers
& camera crews ONLY- for 'photo ops,' of course!

Therefore, below is my original post... here, rather than elsewhere.

America is teetering on the tipping point toward tyranny!

Recently, it was announced by Rick Davis, Karl Rove’s protege
and figure-head for Rove’s actual running of the negative McCain/
Bush3 campaign, that the controversial choice for VP, Sara Palin,
would not be doing interviews with the press, for the time being,
until it could be determined when and if she would be doing them
at all. This would effectively mean that she would be dictating to
the U.S. (and probably the world) media what they can and cannot
report about Republicans.

From here on out, Palin's neo-con 'handlers' are calling the shots! Therefore,
for all practical purposes, the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which
guarantees us all 'freedom of the press' (the right to be informed) has been
canceled... so get used to it!

She refuses to be interviewed unless and/or until the 'press' agrees to abide
by her rules. This means that she cannot be asked whether she believes
that women (and their doctors) should be sent to prison because the woman
has been raped and, subsequently, chooses not to have the rapist’s baby.
Reporters cannot ask whether she will attempt to force all American schools
to teach the creation myth of the Bible as scientific fact. She cannot be asked,
since she has been shown in a video preaching that God supports the war in Iraq
(remember Bush has said that he consulted God before attacking Iraq), whether
she would lead America into further foolish wars, if God asked her to do so.
She cannot be asked if she agrees with former Republican presidential candidate
Mike Huckabee’s pronouncement that he intends to make the Constitution follow
the laws of God, his God (one would assume), and lead America down the
deadly road to Theocracy. There are so many questions she has been avoiding,
and now, in effect, she tells us Americans, "We the People," that we can go to hell!

And, thus, the U.S. stands at the brink of tyranny.

So many have wondered, since the middle of the last century, how such a marvelous
people, the Germans, leaders of the world in science and engineering, the fun-loving
people who have given us the joys of Oktoberfest, could have ever allowed a monster
like Adolph Hitler to take over their country and turn it into an imperialistic nation,
attacking country after country, creating the horrors of the Holocaust on its own
citizens, without any significant protest.

How did Germany begin down the slippery slide into tyranny?

Well, it was mostly carried out by the wiles of Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda,
Joseph Goebbels, the power behind the Hitler political machine. This should
serve to remind us that we all know who was the power behind Bush’s successful
campaign of 2004. We all know who was responsible for the trashing of a medal-
winning hero of the Vietnam War, and who is now flaunting a hero of the very same
war for President. Could it be that he continues to use the same tactics that worked
in 2004 because they worked for Goebbels, in promoting Hitler and his desire for
military conquest?

To continue with the threat imposed by Joseph Goebbels, and now by Sara Palin
(and her handlers), the technique that still works so well is the stifling of the media...
and, eventually and inevitably, the stifling of ALL dissent.

We stand at the point that the German people stood at in the 1930’s, and the single
most important question for the future freedom of the United States is, what will be
the response of the media and the American people? If we allow a modern Goebbels
to continue this political campaign on the course that all thinking people recognize
as the road to further war and the subtle abolition of American rights under the
Constitution, if we just do nothing, then we have no one to blame but ourselves
for the havoc that we may be setting loose upon ourselves and upon our World.

"Never again?"

Don't count on it; God help us all!

Tipping point?

Historically, America has been tyrannical, and not just "now." Ask the ex-slaves (African Americans). Ask the remaining Native Americans from the acts of genocide against them by the US. Ask the Mexicans who had their land invaded for American greek (Mexican-American war). Etc..

Too true! sigh

"Naturally the common people don’t want war. But after all,
it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy, and
it’s always a simple matter to drag people along whether it
is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament,
or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people
can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders.

This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being
attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism
and for exposing the country to danger. It works the same
in every country."

Because i still have a house full of out-of-town company
through this week, i won't have much time to reply to this thread...
so, instead, i will leave you with this thought for now:

Freedom of speech - use it or lose it!

When they took away the 4th Amendment,
we were quiet,
because we didn't deal drugs.

When they took away the 6th Amendment,
we were quiet,
because we were innocent.

When they took away the 2nd Amendment,
we were quiet,
because we don't own guns.

Now they have been taking away the 1st Amendment,
and very soon,
if we continue to be quiet,
we will have no choice,
but to be continue to be quiet.

how true! i love that quote, funny thing is, it will also be at the head of a parade and everyone will fall in and march right behind it

then they will want their pictures taken with it, and tell their buddies all about it back at the local bar
