Anyone else experiencing doom fatigue?
Between the negativity of the Presidential campaign, the string of bad financial news, and just the general mind bending "hurry up and wait" doomishness that comes with being a GLP visitor, is anyone else feeling a bit worn out?

Re: Anyone else experiencing doom fatigue?
... no and no, lol, and not at all.

Course now too though, lol... to me, all them so called negativities and/or baddies and/or doomish like squawkings just sorta reminds me of a bunch of little kids squabbling over which grains of sand in a community playground sandbox belongs to them.

But heck... I'm also from L.A., born and raised, and I grew up with being told, and just about every single day of my life too, that we were going to be taken out by the 'big one', and that it was coming 'soon'. And too... I was also told, and just about every day of my life (back then) as well... that we were also going to be taken out by them Soviet missiles to boot. Why, lol, they even had us cowering under our desks in school back then, and while all the while telling us that that would somehow protect us against a nuclear bomb blast.

Now to me, and for real too... lol, the whole idea of that desk-bomb-drill crap was/is a lot scarier than any of them doomish like silly projections that folks may tend themselves for to do.

when a country is greatly disoriented —as it is currently in America with regards to polarization on many issues— that it’s easy for the Government —and other powers that be— to manipulate the public with lies and deceit. This is not a new strategy, but one that has been implemented in this country —as well as others— for centuries. It’s specifically designed to control the masses by generating and perpetuating confusion. in the past the truth about certain national incidents were not found out and revealed to the public for years. Now, thanks to the internet, it takes only a few months to discover the policies and activities of our Government and mega-corporate empires —that are criminal to say the least.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH:
Alan Isaacman
The People Vs Larry Flynt
"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, you've heard a lot here today and I won't try to go back over it all. But you have to go back in that room and make some decisions and there is one thing I want to make very clear to you before you do. I'm not trying to convince you that you should like what Larry Flynt does. I don't like what he does. But what I do like is... that I live in a country... where you and I can make that decision for ourselves. I like that I live in a country where I can pick up Hustler magazine... read it if I want... or throw it in the trash, if that's where I think it belongs. Or better yet I can express my opinion by not buying it. I like that right. I care about it. And you should care about it, too... because we live in a free country. We say that a lot, but sometimes we forget what that means, so listen again. We live in a free country. That is a powerful idea. That's a magnificent way to live. But there is a price for that freedom, which is that sometimes... we have to tolerate things that we don't necessarily like. So go back in that room... where you are free to think whatever you want to think... about Larry Flynt and Hustler magazine. But then ask yourselves if you want to make that decision for the rest of us... because the freedom that everyone in this room enjoys... is, in a very real way, in your hands. If we start throwing up walls against what some of us think is obscene... we may wake up one morning and realize... that walls have been thrown upin places we never expected... and we can't see anythingor... do anything. And that's not freedom. That is not freedom. So, be careful. Thank you."

Re: Anyone else experiencing doom fatigue?
For me it was their unsettling coincidence with the actual events of the past few weeks.

September 10
One of Wall Street's most venerable banks, Lehman Brothers, puts itself for sale after $4bn loss; with no buyer and refusal by US regulator to step in, declares bankruptcy. Merrill Lynch bought by Bank of America.

September 16
The US government announces $85bn rescue for insurance giant AIG.

September 19
Fearing total collapse in share prices, US securities and exchange commission bans short-selling - borrowing stock with the aim of selling it, then buying it back at a lower price.

September 20-21
Treasury secretary Henry Paulson and fed chairman Ben Bernanke tell Congress to back a government buy-up of $700bn of bad mortgages. World stock markets soar.
September 23
Warren Buffett pays $5bn for 9% of Goldman Sachs to prop up bank.

September 24
George Bush addresses nation on TV on urgent need for Congress to pass $700bn bail-out of US money markets. John McCain surprisingly suspends his campaign. Barack Obama said neither need intervene, but later has to involve himself in the talks too.

September 25
Washington Mutual becomes largest ever US bank failure. JPMorgan Chase buy it out for $1.9bn.

September 26
Hopes that Congress would support bail-out in balance as some Republicans signal opposition. President says he remains confident.
September 29

Congress rejects bailout. Dow drops 777 points.
October 3

Congress passes modified bailout. Dow drops 157 points.

October 6

Dow drops below 10,000 for first time since 2004.

This does not include the European and Asian market issue happening in this same time period.

Re: Anyone else experiencing doom fatigue?
I do not think there is any way to keep up with all the crap that is supposedly thrown on our obstacle course to freedom and enlightenment, so why bother to try keeping up and figuring what is truth and what is fiction. in the end sure fire truth can only be found within and no where out there.
