Realistically, I would think MMA would be a great way of determining the variety of martial arts that could be useful

Re: Best martial art system to learn for TSHTF?
learn to shoot buy a gun

-----

but the faster you can subdue opponet by getting him to ground and going for vitals the better ...

that leaves out most forms of karate and boxing ...

grappling and suppression of will to fight ...

some call it MMA now ... i just call it real fighting ...

im sure you can find hand to hand combat manuals on internet ... I was taught by mny dad was a hand to hand comabt instructor for the army

Im just answering your questions ... though dont approve or disapporve of either

but if you dont know how to zap someones will from fighting or render them immobile ... its best to walk away with words if you can ... if you can you jsut ahve to go to another level and be mentally strong enough to do it and at same time hope you never have too

Boxing will make you hard and give you a sense of what your body is capable of. If 'TSHTF' you won't need martial arts, you will need guns, and good friends.

Re: Best martial art system to learn for TSHTF?
Actually,I would recommend kajukembo.

My wife took up this discipline and it looks like every move either dislocates, breaks a bone or two, or uses the agressor's weapon against him. It's not as popular because it's not as pretty. It's considered too brutal by some.

Originally, I thought she could protect me when TSHTF, but I had to send her away.........after she got her black belt, it was too easy for her to kick my ass.

It is true though, you can't overcome a bullet with it.

Re: Best martial art system to learn for TSHTF?
Krav Maga, for one simple reason. It's main tenet is speed and escape. If you can flee, if you can't, hit hard and decisively, then flee faster! If you're stuck taking martial arts to a gunfight, that's the best attitude to have, get away quick!

On a more personal note, my instructor was an Israeli military trainer back in the 90s, and one of the hottest women I've seen in my life. She knew it, we knew it, and if you were stupid enough to try and flirt with her (married, of course), or insult her because she was a woman (US women weren't combat troops in any form back then), it was pretty much a certainty that you'd have plenty of time to regret those thoughts, because you'd be too sore to fall asleep that night.

A freakin' goddess, and actually a very nice lady, but one bad ass bitch that had no problem kicking dumb American kid's asses. I'm 190 lbs, even back then, and when we first started, she'd say go, and I'd be laying there wondering what just happened.

For a kid like me, that was a major eye opener, and I know I'm not the only one.
