Heard a huge sonic like boom here in AZ
It almost sounded like a fighter jet going by but it was more like a huge sonic boom but sounded more like an explosion that rumbled for minutes as it started to travel away. Dogs were barking and others were coming out side and turning on their lights I think to see what the commotion was all about. If it was an EQ it was huge somewhere.

I have heard the jets before but this was different. Much more of an explosion type of roaring sounds like thunder.

Anyone else in the north west of AZ that can confirm? I looked towards Vegas to see if a darn nuke went off it was that loud.

Believe it or not back at least 17 years had the same thing happen in Jersey and it turned out to be a small earth quake, made the same noise like a sonic boom that bangggggggggg...then stopped.

Could be, thanks. It was really loud and sounded like rolling thunder with a booming sound. I could hear it roll away slowly but as it did it made loud booms as well. It sounded like it was headed north west. I will check the EQ site.

It lasted for a while. Maybe a few minutes.

If I had to guess, I'd go with a meteor.

If it were Aurora, or A-12, if you'd rather. It typically won't break the sound barrier over the US. They either wait until after they break the 12 mile limit over the oceans, or until they're well into Canadian airspace. And in either case, it's usually at an altitude so high (100,000 ft or better) the sonic boom has dissipated into the lower atmosphere.


Just an observation. I could be wrong, of course, but in the past that was what their flight profiles were.
