The only strange coinsidence I see here, is that Deep Impact and Armageddon, were both released on the same year, 1998. So something must have been discovered or serioudly talked -in the scientific community- back then (2-5 years before 1998) about a close approach of an asteroid or comet (most likely asteroid) that made them want to create these films very fast. It was the Comet Shoemaker-Levy crashing into the Planet Jupiter in 1994 that led to so many movies about asteroids hitting earth. It made quite an impression on scientists and media, if a comet could hit Jupiter, a comet could also hit earth. |

Amazing movie, just saw it last night for the first time. I watched the director's comment version today, she mentioned something interesting.. When they show an approach (like a plane would take) over the Statue of Liberty, you see the World Trade Towers dead center. She said she "was going to have two planes in the shot, but took them out for some reason". Hmmm... Also note how "Beck" is somewhat close to "Barack" MSNBC figures prominently into the story, they wanted to use CNN, but they refused. MSNBC was a new network at the time and consented. 11 years later, the Obama administration and MSNBC have a similar cozy relationship.. |
