OK, so for everyone posting here, maybe answer a few basics:

What State are you in?
Did you Vote Paper or Plastic?
How long did you wait?
Any Law Enforcement presence?
What # were you at your polling place?

Re: The 'Official' I Voted Thread ... What Was Your Experience?
My husband and I went to our polling place at about 5:30 a.m in Phoenix, AZ. When we arrived there were approximately 100 people waiting in line. The crowd was pleasant and friendly and no one was whining or bitching about having to wait. Everyone seemed to have anticipated that there might be a long wait.

What stuck me was the cross section of American live in our Precinct. Although Phoenix does not have many blacks, there were quite a few in line, Asians, and a very heavy Latino turnout.

I guess I'm, at heart, a sentimentalist. When I saw the crowd and the determined and happy/proud looks on so many faces, I couldn't help but think of what an historic event this is.

I am 57 years old and never really thought I'd live to see a serious contender for President who is black. Now, I will wait for a woman, a Latino or a Jewish person up for election.

I walked out of the polling place with pride. We voted with ballots where you draw a line connecting the name of the person you are voting for with a "yes".

No problemss except they were carefully checking registration and ID's.

The polling officials made a big deal out of the fact I was #100 to vote this morning. I asked "what do I win? The election?"

Anyway, it was very orgainized and it only took me a couple of minutes to cast my ballot and leave.

Excellent post. I had the same feeling of pride. It is something when you go to vote, knowing that you are truly looking at your neighbors, whether you know them or not.

And, I'm 51, have never missed a Presidential Election vote. But I too had the sense of the historical implications of this election.

And, do you realize that women have had the right to vote for less than 100 years? That astounds me.

I woke up very early this morning..wanted to get to the polls right at opening because I didn't want to wait in line.

So anyways, I went to the polling place at school and guess what? Nearly 2,000 students waiting in line at 6 a.m. this morning. I couldn't believe it.

So I went to another polling station in my precinct and waited 15 minutes. Voting was very easy.

Go Obama!

Indiana. It's in the bag for Obama...the turnout is massive and the Obama ground campaign and get out the vote is strong here.

Last night I would've given McCain a 3-6 point win here. Not anymore. Obama will win Indiana by 2-5 points. Bank on it.

I did that on the local level - and voted no to 2 of the 3 amendments - we just don't need to spend money right now.

Washington State had all mail in ballots this year, with the exception of two counties.

Why did they decide to do that? That's curious.

I'm assuming to keep the system more clean... no voting booths to man, less traffic, etc...

A lot of folks complained about the machines that would not give them paper proof of their vote during the last election so that may be another reason.

Boonies of Virginia here. Went to the precinct - one mile away. A gentleman opened the door for me "come on up in the house!" Voted on the nifty electronic machine, no problem. Back home in less than 5 minutes from leaving.

Hubby and I joke we have our own private voting booth.
We also have a public pool here - nice new one - we often have it all to ourselves with lifeguards.

Nice place!

Voter turn out is virtually unmeasured in this election. Indiana was touted as a weak Republican state at [link to www.electoral-vote.com]

I have also heard reports on CNN that Georgia, which was also a weak Republican State may be leaning Democrat.

No police...the Township in which I live is relatively small as is the area set up for our polls.

No police where I voted either but I always pack my .38 so there wasn't going to be trouble....for long anyway.

Good thread Woman on the Edge!

Arrived at our place at 6:50. Already 100 or so in line. Took about 2 hrs to vote. Not very organized at all but I expected that from previous experience in this area. Machines seemed to function fine (no switching votes in front of my eyes). No signs, tshirts, buttons or campaigning in line or anything.

Here's another thing:

Starbucks is giving away free coffee to anyone who shows their 'I have Voted' sticker -

and some local restaurants are giving away free food to voters -

what the hell is that about!
