United States 11/09/2008 03:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Can a Pardoner self-Pardon a Felon Pardoner? ie: Can Bush Pardon Himself? Bush thinks he has it set up so if convicted of any war crimes-he will pardon himself. Ordinarily, a person suddenly being convicted a felon would strip him of that power. Sorry, buddy
But, seems you need not have been found guilty(yet) of any crime to get a pardon-by a sitting President Sitting President is the key word
Ford pardoned Nixon AS A SITTING PRESIDENT-as Commander in Chief Bush will no longer be a sitting President -or Commander in Chief-therefore, 1. Can he pardon himself at all, period? 2. Can he pardon himself, no longer being a sitting president who DOES have that power?
But can a source of crime pardon itself? For what crime? None, yet But the premise of self pardon is self defeating If he is not charged with any crime-how can he pardon HIMSELF before the fact, and for what? and if convicted-he looses the power to self pardon
Endless loop But can an ex- President pardon himself after Jan 20? My guess is that the courts will tell Bush that he is full of shit up to his eyeballs
Seymour Hersch writes that there is a boatload of people eager to spill the beans on Bush Cheney Rove-et al. on or after Jan 20-When Bush is no longer Commander in Chief-just an ex-president. I dont think an ex president can pardon anybody, let alone himself
Packy and those of your ilk-I would be NICE to OBAMA if I were you-who knows? HE might pardon Bush... |
