Anonymous Coward User ID: 42318 United States 11/10/2008 05:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They mentioned this recent, massive increase in rabies cases on "This American Life". The episode was filled with real life horror stories, just in time for Halloween. The woman got charged and bitten by a rabid raccoon in the woods near her house on a Saturday, but couldn't find anyone to agree to give her the antidote. It's expensive, and the local animal control places were all closed. If you don't get a shot within 72 hours, you will probably die. No joke! [link to www.thisamericanlife.org] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 538829 United States 11/10/2008 05:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live on a 12-acre farm in northern Florida. Lots of deer, wild turkeys and occasional stray cats......my doggies tree the cats.......but one in particular has decided to stay.....I called the humane society and animal welfare. They won't pick up any strays unless you "catch it in a cage" first. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 512611In Australia where my little dog Dinkum and I moved here from, there is no such thing as rabies. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 538829A rabid skunk sprayed one of my cats when I was growing up. My grandmother called the police to come shoot it. They simply chased it across the garden. They said they didn't want to discharge their guns in town. My grandmother ripped the chief of police a new one. He didn't say a word while she was doing it because he knew he had it coming. vaccinefreehealth blogspot com The risk far outweighs any benefit as the risk will vary from child to child. facebook.com/graphixyourway |

Don't have the original local article but here's a link to the CDC about it - they're pretty credible [link to www.cdc.gov] |
