The "good old boys" who were hot young studs in the 70's and brought us the K Car, etc., are now as old and tired as the guys before them who screwed up GM, Ford, and Chrysler. Electric fleets that use NO Hydrocarbon Fuel and Electric/Diesel Hybrid's can and will give us milage in the 100 to 200 mpg range NOW! I would give two of the auto makers the money - and let the third go broke, bailing out their pension and healthcare obligations so not to hurt the generations of retirees. Sell off the assets to repay the government for the pension bail out. Then with the other two - give them some mandates about what they must build and when! We want what they've long sworn is possible delivered NOW! And the quality must be the best in the world. We need cars built for 10 and 20 years, not throw-away shit that is in the land fills in 7 years or less. It can be done. But will Ford and GM agree to do it or would they rather go broke? Without some serious changes, they should go broke for getting themselves into this stupid mess. Caddy Escalades and Hummers! Fucking MORONS! What were they thinking? 550 CU IN Engines, and 8 MPG! Maybe! Yet they built them and plenty of people bought them. And today are crying at the pump! |

Quoting: OneAngryMomwhy don't they reorganize instead of getting bailed out? it would change the union contracts and the unions have their congress and president now this isn't the GM bailout ... it's the UAW bailout "If there is a new fascism, it won't come from skinheads and punks; it will come from people who eat granola and think they know how the world should be." - Brian Eno |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 495140Despite what Obama says, the taxpayer will foot the bill for all these bailouts. well, yeah there is NO other source of money but taxpayers "If there is a new fascism, it won't come from skinheads and punks; it will come from people who eat granola and think they know how the world should be." - Brian Eno |

However, we are on a tightrope here with our deficits. If we extend much further our bond rating could go to shit and if that happens then I there may be automatic mandatory repayment (i don't know this for sure, anyone?), sort of like an acceleration clause. If that happens what happened to AIG happens to the USA. So, the question is can we afford it? Many are saying no, we are already flirting with bankruptcy. Look at our state gov'ts. TEXAS UNCENSORED User ID: 550460 ![]() 11/14/2008 12:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They failed, and like the other companies who have gotten bail outs, they should be forced into bankruptcy. Everyone of them. No bailouts for any of them. The money belongs to us, not them. When they couldn't bilk it out of us in the markets, or through loan shark credit tactics, they now want to steal it with the blessings of the goverment that has forgotten they work for us. Bankruptcy, not bailouts. The American people deserve bailouts, but we aren't stupid enough to think that debt problems can be solved by creating more debt.
