my German grandfather fought in WW1 and lived with a bullet imbedded in his skull..(they lacked expertise then to extract). However, he went on to become the Chief Architect of Berlin during WW2, and the Nazis forced him to join the party.
When he didnt comply they shipped him off to a Russian camp.
( He got "captured" )
Upon release he reunited with family. He complied due to the war although he hated the Nazis. My mom fled Berlin with a suitcase at age 17.
Im the result of her and my AF dad.(American)
The two Wars were horrendous. Us Younger Generation have no idea,
Good story and sorry about Grandfather..that would hurt a bullet in the skull for life..ouch!
but he lived until age 76
Ive laerned much from my mother who is 75 and who has passed her knowledge of that Depression to me.
I live frugally now.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 331956My Mother the same way..She lived Her life as if the depression was never over...and maybe She had a point
