My Local Walmart's Shelves

I live in a major metropolitan area and yes Walmart is not stocking up as much as they used to. I believe as with all other companies in this economy they are dwindling down their inventories and then are slowly reordering in order not to get caught by a nasty surprise.

I don't shop at Wal-mart as they are too far from me, about half an hour. But I will tell you that the Dollar General has increased their food shelving and on those newly increased shelves are stocking more basic items than ever before. A whole aisle for chinese, rice, canned and dry beans, and Mexican.

However, there are still some items they cannot keep in stock: the HUGE box of generic corn flakes for $2 is hardly ever in stock three hours after delivery.

I believe they are increasing food shelving in place of gee- gaws because that is definitely where the demand is. But I am waiting for the day when people wake up and realize what is happening and even those shelves will be bare soon.

Hmm - I've noticed dollar general increasing their food shelves as well.

It's pretty disconcerting watching the food aisles change before our eyes. Things are changing faster than most realize, I think.

Interesting, I bought tank tops tonight at Walmart for a buck on clearance. A dollar! I know they're cheap to start with but wow!

Can you imagine the after Christmas sales? Christmas in January anyone?

I bought some drawers and socks from WalMart night before last and they are made in the USA - that's right, the USA!!!
Now, a few months ago I am pretty sure that I had noticed where these items were made in China.
If that is the case, how do you suppose they seamlessly pulled that off in such short order?

I also live in a small town ,and have noticed the shelves in Wal mart are all half empty. Started about a month ago.

We moved to this place after a road trip looking for a place to settle. Drove out of the nearest city for 30 miles. Nothing but tiny post office towns. Then out of the blue - a brand spanking new Walmart.

We bought land a year later and here we are!

We figure at least if everything we want isn't here, everything we NEED is!

Or so we thought until the shelves started emptying lately! I'm buying rice and beans and beans and rice. If the local walmart goes, we're done for! LOL

Dollar General is one business that has been doing fairly well and is frequently suggested as a good stock investment.

very interesting indeed. i also live in a very rural area (not that it matters i suppose) but a couple of months ago the local walmart removed ALL the aisle displays completely which was a large percentage of the overall stock.

at the same time, the shelves started emptying. many people noticed and pondered why that was. i asked an employee there myself why so many items were out of stock and why the inventory was so drastically reduced and she stated she had no idea but the other employees were discussing it as well.

since then it has just become the norm. all the aisle displays are still gone and the shelves are devoid of MANY of the regular items. overall stock levels are probably close to HALF what they were and had always been. very curious. but no doubt a sign of things to come.

for myself i believe it is useful conditioning for all of us. might as well get used to living with less!

It is not just you. I live in West Palm Beach and noticed the shelves with less stock in november. Increased a bit for december shopping and now since the first of the year they are really empty. I am thinking that the chinamen are trying to move to more upscale imports and also concentrating more on producing for their own domestic consumtion. Just a theory, because I have read articles where they talk about these things. But I do agree something is afoot. I think that the greedy and money worshipers are feeling Gods anger,but because they only beleive in themselves as the power they do not recognize it. Do not be sleeping when the time comes. I think that 2012 is the year of the Lord. I have always remembered the book of Daniel. The end times will come when Knowledge (Internet)and transportation (commerce) are greatly increased.

Rural area here.
Everyone was complaining about ammo so I went to check it out.
Got 4 boxes of .40 S/W no problems.
Walked around, the inventory was good even in the food sections.

Good for you Ive looked at 3 walmarts in my area... none of them are fully stocked on ammo... sucks

I'm in VA. People buy lots of Ammo here. Could be the SM orders more. It was about 1PM on last Thursday if that info helps any.

Stopped in Walmart to get a box of donuts last night...
They were out of donuts.

There were a few boxes of little debbies cakes and plenty of bread, but the donut shelf was empty.

My Walmart is 100% full. However, I couldn't help notice that the last two times I've been there I was the ONLY person in line. I do go at night but it was still very strange. There are typically two or three people in line even late at night.

Just in time delivery systems epic fail. Soon.

I hear the Chinese take off about a month for vacation this time of year.

That could effect what you're seeing.

We noticed mid October here. Asked friends if they noticed at their local Walmarts and they did. Also noticed more empty shelves at Kroger and started about the same time. Will say they are increasing their supplies of beans and rice at this time.

If a natural disaster occurs, Walmart probably has some set back to sell to FEMA at skyhigh prices.

Also, our Walmarts here stock up in the very early morning hours, so if you are going in late at night of course the shelves are going to look picked over because they are. Find out when the do their restocking and take note of how they look right after the restock has been done.

Are you sure they are made in USA instead of China. There is a province in China that has been renamed "USA" so that it appears on all its products: "Made in USA"

I wouldn't shop at w'mart/sweatshops if you paid me! I hope they go under ...
