Re: What the bleep do we know? Down the rabbit hole.
quantum physics is trying to say your imagination affects the real world, it certainly affects perception, but not the real world. for instance if you have a shoebox (with its contents unknown to you), you can imagine anything in the shoebox (it essentially has anything you want it to have, but only in potential land not in realty), but once you open it you will discover the reality of its contents. which won't always be what you imagine. sometimes I meet people thinking they will be douche bags, but they turn out to be kind people. sometimes I meet people expecting them to be nice, but they end up being douchebags. my expectations don't change the person.

Are we killing cats yet? wink

as we all know schroedinger's cat can only be dead or alive in reality, in equations anything goes.

There have been some interesting experiments.

Bible's older than 2000 years and what's your point?

You should do a thread telling people to read the Bible because that'd be as fresh as this thread.

Because he's a troll. Of course something five years old can still be a valid topic of discussion. In fact, sometimes looking back a little gives some real perspective that only reinforces the validity.

I remember when people thought a movie like this was so far out of the realm of possibilities. An oldie but goodie...

When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.

Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

The real troll was he/she/it bashing The Bible for no reason other he/she/it felt that way which is fine.

I think that we should all just sit and talk about flakey bullshit movies we saw 5 years ago full of fucktards when there are terrorist attacks, economic problems, and political issues going on.

I thought this was an interesting article..

Aug 1, 2000

New life for Schrödinger's cat

The observation of quantum superpositions of distinct macroscopic states by groups at Stony Brook and Delft represents a milestone in experimental quantum physics. Both teams have reported spectroscopic evidence for currents of microamps flowing through a superconducting ring in opposite directions at the same time

When the formalism of quantum mechanics is applied to experiments involving microscopic objects such as electrons, we often find that the resulting description assigns finite probability amplitudes to two, or more, possibilities that appear to be mutually exclusive. In the classic Young's double-slit experiment, for example, these possibilities are the passage of an electron through either the left- or right-hand slit.

According to most interpretations of quantum mechanics, we cannot say that any given electron goes through one slit or the other: to explain the interference patterns observed in double-slit experiments it appears that each electron must leave its options open until it is "observed", at which point it always chooses one possibility (i.e. a particular slit) or the other.

Re: What the bleep do we know? Down the rabbit hole.
My Position is this : This is old news. The movie is from 2004.

It was interesting when it came out, and I watched it on the movie channel 3 or 4 times when it came out but at this juncture my point is that it's not really timely. It was good and thought provoking and interesting but it's old.

That's it. I can defend that position till hell freezes over because it's true. It's a dusty old movie with some real woo woo's in it.

I wasn't trolling. I wasn't flaming. I was being mildly sarcastic in making that point.

Nikki was taking backhands at The Bible which is fine because she's done it before and she doesn't like it an I accept that.

I made a sarcastic comment.

You wanna see trolling? You haven't seen it from me yet.

Trolling is from guys like JackOff that pop in and try to impress people later on ... that's the real trolling. He knows no one cares what he has to say unless he's doing the mob mentality thing and piling on any naysayer because he has to hide his own lack of originality and intelligence.

You can either choose to address that crap or not. I was bored so i did, most times i don't.

the only problem I have with quantum mechanics is that it doesn't make sense. please someone explain to me in simple terms, how a cat can be dead and alive at the same time, or how one particle affects another particle that is separated from it. somethings can't be known for sure.

Watched the movie twice when i first found it but after continued study of various subjects and theories, I re-watched and it just didn't gel with me as it had the first time round...
some books i liked and still do that ya'll should check out

'The Elegant Universe' by Brian Greene. Book is excellent, movie is great too [i prefere words and my own imagination].

He gives a good crash-course on Q-mechanics/physics and touches on string and m theory. Lots of good interviews in the movies, one with Mr M Theory himself Ed Witten. Very thought provoking and a good grounder for those wishing to learn who don't want to jump right into the Meta pool.

Anything by Fred Alan Wolf [from What the bleep]

Asmat Goswami [sic?] explores Q with a more Eastern approach but from a Western perspective [if that makes sense?].

But def. try to track down the movie and if you see the book, grab it and shelve it for later. He has a unique writing style that both accomadates the iniate to the micro-realm and those that are versed and broadening there theory base.
