Has Human Evolution Stopped?
Feeling like listening to a good lecture?

Prof. Allan Templeton, Professor of Biology, Genetics and Biomedical Engineering at Washington University discusses the question of whether or not human evolution has stopped. Citing current research Templeton covers the common misconceptions of evolution and explains the difference between natural selection and evolution.

If random mutation is any measure, I think we're devolving as a species.

Not only has it stopped but now it is actually reversing!

do you believe in aging? perhaps you'd prefer this talk.

it's also a good one.

Prof. Shlomo Breznitz examines the changes in the brain's ability to process information as people age and how to retain cognitive skills so as to maintain a high quality of life.

Re: Has Human Evolution Stopped?
If the founding fathers visited us today, would they think that we're already at the point that was portrayed in "Idiocracy"?

Mike Judge has seen the future, and it ain't pretty.
It's horribly, terribly, frighteningly funny---but it ain't pretty.

After seven years of Dubya, perhaps America has become inured to the dumbing down of all aspects of it's culture. There's certainly enough evidence to prove that's the case---i.e. hey, let's all vote for our American Idol and then tune into Dancing With The Stars!

But Judge, the brilliant mind behind Hank Hill, Beavis/Butthead and the post-modern classic Office Space, pulls no punches here and draws a future that is, sadly, not as far removed from reality as we might wish it were. The president is a 'Smackdown' champion--can you say 'Ahhnold?'--and Carls Jr. sponsors all aspects of fast food life in America.

Ummm--are we sure this shouldnt be categorized in the documentary category?

Satire is a rapidly dying artform---and the fact that this movie went straight into the void rather than topping the box office charts is further proof that, laugh as we might at their exploits, K-Fed and Britney are our canaries in the coal mine and, as the saying goes, the future 'aint what it used to be.'

Dude.

Contrary to what most people think, this is not a comedy. It is instead a horror flick cleverly disguised as a comedy, done by that genius of stupidity who gave the world Beavis & Butthead.

This may confuse people but "horror" doesn't even really grasp it. Instead it is a prophetic vision of the future where the weak and stupid have propagated en masse, yielding a world helpless to extract itself from even it's most basic problems.

If ever there was a good argument for eugenics, it can be found here.

You probably think I'm being facetious, but I am not. Watch it to laugh, then cry about it's overwhelming bleakness later.

Re: Has Human Evolution Stopped?
hi

When a spirit selects a body to experience 3D it would like the best that it can get. And the Sentient Universe had created this earth as an ideal spot for teaming life of all kinds. However, with the poisons that have been used by mankind to pollute the land, sea, and air, the bodies of Man as well as many other species are either devolving or becoming extinct.
