Moving to Denver /Boulder from NYC - thoughts appreciated
Considering a move to Denver, Southwest near the foothills. Any thoughts from others who have moved from NY or elsewhere to Denver, or lifetime Denver resident comments welcome.

If you moved there from NY, are you going to stay since you love it so much?

If you moved to Denver from somewhere else, do you want to stay?

Or, are you in NY or elsewhere and want to get out of Dodge and are moving to Denver as well?

thx.

Re: Moving to Denver /Boulder from NYC - thoughts appreciated
I'm going to move from north of NYC to Colorado Springs as soon as I can get some money together.

I can't say I hate it here, but it is too friggin expensive and pretty dirty too.
When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.

Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

Go to the airport and study the murals intensely and you will learn how you are going to die....

Thx Jack, yeah, even though the econ is going bust, it is still over the top in cost of living, and dirty. Been here 24yrs.

I live in Boulder, absolutely love it here. Mostly because I am an outdoorsy person. If you're expecting a thriving nightlife or club scene like what NYC has, you are looking at the wrong city.
And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.

My family has been here since the mid-1600s. I hate to be the one to throw in the towel, but my bro just bought a nice house out there. Visited in the Spring. Air is clean and crisp. Hardly any bugs whatsoever. Biggest thing is the cost of living though. Mountains are beautiful too. i'll miss some of the natural beauty around here too though, but not the damn humidity in the Summer.

I think you will love it. It is beautiful, but still lots of people so you won't get freaked out about being in the boonies.

(I never lived in NYC or Denver but I have been to both places and would choose Denver over NYC. I would choose Denver over Dallas, which is where I do live at the moment, but the job is too good to leave right now)

I lived there for 31 years, from 63 to 94. You could not pay me enough money to move back to that cesspool. But, considering that you are moving from an even bigger cesspool, it might be an improvement.

I think it would be a good move. It is interesting that certain government orgs are moving their HQ's to the Denver area. Can't say that it means anything but interesting nonetheless.

thx Sombra for the encouragement :-). I have a good job here in NYC as well, hard to give up, but may not last in the current turmoil, and quality of life issues. Looking to work in Alternative Energy Industry which is big in CO right now, and do something to help, rather than take. The mountains are beautiful, goddess country.

I knew you were going to mention the Ntl Renewable Energy Lab.

That is a academic research facility that has been there for a long time.

It's not along 36- the Boulder Turnpike, but in west Denver at "Denver West" in Lakewood.

One research institution doesn't make for any huge local industry.

Just be sure your expectations are reasonable.

A better place to have your questions answered is on the forum at www.city-data.com. The forum is broken down by state and big cities, so you can go right to the Denver section and get all the answers you'll ever need, even from fellow transplanted NYers. Good luck.

Oh God, oh God, oh God ...

The last thing Colorado needs is more snotty, metrosexual, liberal New Yorkers moving in.

Stay where you are and wallow in your own pigshit.
