Quoting: Anonymous Coward 472919Wow, that's crazy! We live in a country with "freedoms". It is your right to home school your children. I live in KY and haven't heard one thing from social services or the schools. And yes, (to the other poster) I do teach them about Adam and Eve. |

What the hell are you doing here at GLP if you are not already at least partially aware that TPTB do not have your best interests at heart, or those of your children either? This is deliberate dumbing down, through the schools, the drugs they force on the kids and the chemicals they zap us all with and it is definitely with a purpose. Grow up. |

getaclue User ID: 575892 United States 12/29/2008 09:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My dd goes to a Catholic school and she will go there as long as we can afford it. The education there blows away the education in the local public schools. And the fact that she will learn morals which is not taught at public schools. When I was growing up, I started out in Catholic school but then had to go to public school because my parents could no longer afford it. I always noticed that the kids in the same grade in the catholic school were further ahead in learning than in my public school. I was impressed by that. If for some reason we cannot afford to send her to the private school we will home school her. |

My children were in public school. My daughter came home one day with instructions on doing a project. The instructions used a little girl making a brew and casting a spell. Just to make a point I called the principle and suggested this paper was promoting witchcraft. The teacher then called. She informed me she was a Sunday School teacher and didn't see the problem. I then said I guess casting spells in also in the bible. She didn't say anything. The next day they collected the paper. LOL My point is (I am not a Christian) it was more about how well hidden these type of messages are. I ended up homeschooling anyway and that was 15 years ago. I was a hippie mom. |
WalkerTalker User ID: 544311 United States 12/29/2008 09:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why dont christians run toward the problems? They are always running away from them, mostly by advice from religious leaders that are really quite dumb. The schools are the way they are because parents are not involved in the process enough, they want to drop the kid off at the babysitters and go to work. We have to make the kid more important than going to work. The parents need to be there!!! Private schools are costly. I say reform the public school system. Dont expect the teachers union to do it, they will become elitests and try to run the show, no...the parents run the show!! The teachers are going to have to learn this! Your so called religious leaders would eat their words if they had to face real people in real schools. You have to learn to work with other people differant than yourself, you cant pull the kids out and run away. That is so shallow. People are not evil like the religious right would have you believe. Get involved in your community, get involved in your schools. Ignore the religious right. |

That means every parent should be required by law to be a volunteer at their childs school for a minimum of a half day of paid leave from work a week. Imagine how this would end much of the crap that goes on. Let the parents decide the ciriculum for the children. let them be involved in teaching their own children. Let parents learn to work together. Quoting: WalkerTalkerWhy dont christians run toward the problems? I taught for six years in a major public school system on the East Coast. Many of the teachers are born again christians who see their calling as reaching these city kids for christ. Yes, we could get fired but noone cares. Often times the principals are strong christians as well. Jesus and church were talked about in our public school system frequently. As long as big brother isn't looking over your shoulder, teachers can and will talk about whatever they want....including Jesus as the Christ. SURPRISE!!! |

Did you ever have a job that you hated and worked real hard at? A long, hard day of work. Finally you get to go home, get in bed, close your eyes and immediately you wake up and realize... that the whole day at work had been a dream. It's bad enough that you sell your waking life for minimum wage, but now they get your dreams for free. The worst mistake that you can make is to think you're alive when really you're asleep in life's waiting room. |

Quoting: Jesus in Public School 548625I agree...school is not a toxic place for kids---the religious right has always gone around trying to demonize the schools--just sayin.... Look, we have to learn how to work together...instead of pulling kids out of schools the parents should GET MORE INVOLVED. This is not about majority rules, this is about learning to be a part of the public. If parents got involved at schools, they would learn that 90% of what these dummies in the religious right are saying is not true. They would also discover that when there are concerns, a parents complaints , especially when there are several parents complaining, thoise get attention paid to them!! Teachers and schools are scared of lawsuits and their job security. I dont think we should be scaring people, but accountability is good. Church- quit running away and get involved with the community. Dont believe everything they say on the platform at church. |

Kids need to grow up with their moms and dads involved in their lives. I had a girlfriend who hoimeschooled and sent the kids to public school too. Both. She also was involved with the teachers and knew what the kids were studying- everyday. Philly Girl User ID: 541429 United States 12/29/2008 12:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Public schools were run initially by a government who knew if you expected a population to defend a nation they needed to be well schooled in the Constitution and the political workings of that country. Later however, they seemed to decide that teaching future employees was more important, now many schools have removed their Civics lesson and now seem to simply be focusing on teaching future voters who will be so confused they'll happily vote for whoever they think knows best and never concern themselves with the actual issues. I was lucky, my son was born in January so I didn't have to hand him over to the school system until he was 5 (now they are talking about education for 0-5 (zero? What the heck does that mean?), and even though I no longer have a school aged kid I'll do what I can to fight against that. As far as Jesus being taught in East Coast public schools - no where that I know of. In fact it was the opposite for my son growing up on the Jersey Shore. In first grade they asked the class one December morning what the the meaning of Christmas was. My son wasn't a Christian, but he knew that answer and proudly raised his hand. "It's the celebration of the birth of Christ" he replied.....and guess what?! He was told he was wrong! It was the time of year that Santa came! Why ask the question if you don't want the real answer? Demoralization and indocturnation. BTW some areas of California have also started to threaten those who are homeschooling as well. |
