Actually, the varicella virus(chickenpox) is related to the human herpes virus, but is not actually herpes. Once you have had chickenpox, however, it never leaves, becoming a "friend" for life, lying dormant in your spinal cord, waiting to reactivate, similar to HHV. Anybody who has ever had a "fever blister," however, is infected with the herpes virus. Type 1 is usually on the mouth, type 2 usually in the nasty places but these days either one can occur in either place.
