Motorola to lay off 4,000 in 2009

January 14, 2009

Schaumburg-based Motorola Inc. said Wednesday it is laying off 4,000 workers in 2009, with 3,000 of them in the company's flagship mobile phone division.

The layoffs are expected to begin immediately and come on top of a 3,000 workforce reduction announced during the fourth quarter of 2008.

I worked for Motorols Government Electronics Group (the aerospace/defense part) for eight years (1982-1990). At one time they were the biggest private employer in Arizona. Now it seems they're selling off their businesses left and right and layong off anyone who's left....
Where's the EVIDENCE, Jim?

as a previous owner of SEVERAL motorola phones, if they would make a better product instead of the total CRAP they have been making, they probably would not be in trouble now

I dought it is because of their product. They are one of the major providers of equipment used by police, fire, ambulance and even military. I guess you havn't heard the news lately regarding the economy slowdown and all the layoffs occuring elsewhere.

Alot phones have all kinds of issues, motorola creates alot of chipsets used by other phones and devices. Ex. GM cars with on star or XM radio are powered by a Motorola module. That there is probably a major part of the reason they having sales issues.

they just laid off 1000 employees at my mom's job today. and they're a hotel accessory company. they sell things like dishwasher detergent and dish washing machines at hotel, soaps, shampoos. they laid off 1000 people today throuout the US and that's just one rinky dinky company called Ecolab. There's so many that we don't know of, small companies, laying off thousands.
