Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 598415 New Zealand 01/22/2009 05:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | article dated Feb 2001 "Antarctica Is Melting Before Our Eyes" [link to www.independent.co.uk] quote: "The explorer and yachtsman Sir Peter Blake called the ministers attending the governing council of the United Nations Environment Programme to say that he had just sailed 100 miles through open water that had been frozen for hundreds of thousands of years. The King George VI ice shelf at the base of the Antarctic peninsula was breaking up, he said." . An urgent and very dramatic report from Sir Peter Blake. Read it for your own sake and that of your children because whereas Blake was extremely concerned about the future, it appears that scientists today are not. - |

Hollin at Maine University (U.S.A.) considers that large pieces periodically came out of the Antarctic ice field creating a huge tide” (Zecharia Sitchin, The Twelfth Planet). * 3600 years ago - Volcanoes activation and their eruption: "Two celestial bodies have been attracted one to each other. The inner masses of the Earth were pushed to the periphery. The Earth with its rotation movement disturbed, started to warm … many tradition around the world describe the way the surface of the Earth entered into a fusion process and the sea started to boil. Anonymous Coward User ID: 296013 Iraq 01/25/2009 03:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | this is the coldest summer i can remember. bs, antarctica is not supposed to be always icy. it used to be green and there are fossil forests under the ice. this is not caused by warming but shifting ocean currents. the warmer scientists are dumber than shit fresh from a dog. fuck u warmer bitches! |

Gazmik User ID: 487277 United States 01/25/2009 10:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | During today's teleconference, Shindell said wind patterns across Antarctica make it difficult to pin down the role of greenhouse gases in warming the continent, but human activity in the world's other continents should be added in as an influence pushing Antarctic temperatures up. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 598415One of the problems with gauging the effects of greenhouse gasses in Antarctica is that the hole in the ozone layer above Antarctica has caused cooling in the upper atmosphere, which has strengthened the circular winds around the continent, which has slowed the warming on the interior of the continent. So between the hole in the ozone layer caused by CFCs, or greenhouse gasses, there is a man-made effect on the climate in Antarctica. Bob Saget User ID: 578679 United Kingdom 01/25/2009 11:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was watching something on TV the other day that said the arctic ice is melting three times faster than it was only a decade ago, and if it continues at that rate, the whole lot will be gone in about 30 - 40 years, raising global sea level by about 20 feet. That was the good news, though. The antarctic has always been considered as 'safe'...but now that has started melting also at an alarming rate. And that contains eleven times more ice than the arctic. Meaning that sea levels could easily rise by about 200 feet, within a generation. Scientists are increasingly alarmed, apparently. The chariots of God are tens of thousands, and thousands of thousands. |
meras User ID: 599921 United Kingdom 01/25/2009 11:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to news.nationalgeographic.com] The Arctic is volcanically active as well and this is something which we cannot control, however we should tackle pollution but I do not subscribe to the theory that it is driving global warming or polar melting. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 561632 Netherlands 01/25/2009 11:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ...While the numbers are complicated, the team's evidence indicates that over the entire Antarctic continent - where year-round temperatures average nearly 50 degrees below zero - the average temperature increase for the past 50 years has been half a degree Celsius, or just under one full degree Fahrenheit, Geist said.... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 598415So instead of minus 50 degrees it's on average minus 49 degrees...not really shocking or dramatic nor does it explain massive melt (if true)... Please, continue to ignore (active) volcanoes and (changing) sea currents... |
G. House User ID: 600647 Netherlands 01/25/2009 11:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Pretty long article to tell you that the temperature in Antartica has risen one degree Farenheit over a period of fifty years. This is what the panic is over? This is why they want to further tax us to death and ruin the economy? You people can't see anything wrong with this farce? And if memory serves me correctly years ago they were talking about differences of five degrees Farenheit. Now after more than a decade of talking about tis issue the real change is one degree farenheit over 50 years? Give me a friggen break. The real truth is they don't even have a large enough database over a large enough amount of time in that area (Antartica) to really draw any significant conclusions on what's happening. Another aspect that's always bothered me in all this is I have yet to see a conclusive scale presented that states exactly what temperature rise is to be expected from any numbered rise in parts per million of CO2. "Everybody lies." |
Dancer (Unchained) User ID: 500829 United States 01/25/2009 11:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It comes down to this simple fact. Either the world is currently warming significantly... Or tens of thousands of Climatologists are in on the biggest scam ever, faking data and lying openly and often to everyone that will listen with incredible levels of acting skill that has never been seen before in any group of scientists. Sure, 'thousands' of 'scientists' have said that global warming is a scam... The fact that we can only find a handful of them to talk to and that most of them seem to be getting money from the oil and coal industries for saying what they are... That could be happenstance! Maybe the only people with our best interests at heart ARE what we could call BIG CARBON.... For my part, I am going to hedge my bet an assume for the time being that no one would be stupid enough to fake global warming or smart enough to fake it just as massive weather and climate changes become apparent. So, what does this mean? Frankly, we need to get off our lazy, "God will save us", "It's not happening because I'm scared of it" behinds and figure out what we are going to do as individuals. Sure, it's NOT fair that we have to change our lives to survive this and to try and fix it for future generations! But you know what? The universe doesn't care about fair. It doesn't even care if we respond and try to live at all! It just is and will follow it's own path regardless of what we choose! :) We can choose to do something or do nothing, but it is still a choice! D. And all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "save us!" And I'll look down and whisper "No." |

If the Earth is indeed warming, then it is most likely due to natural forces. In the past, the Earth has been warmer and cooler than it is now. I think the scientists are grasping at anything that may explain whatever warming or cooling the Earth is experiencing. Personally, I think we should embrace global warming. Sure, perhaps we will have to move further away from the coasts, but what about the growing season? We would be able to grow food crops in areas we never have before. Perhaps some of the produce normally restricted to growing in the tropics would be able to be grown in many other areas (coffee, bananas, mangoes, etc). The "food shortages" we are having would be a thing of the past. We can live and flourish in a warmer climate. In a colder climate, the growing season and the ares in which we can grow food decreases dramatically. Global cooling could wreck our civilization. Global Warming would only enhance it. If you use this type of thinking, then the question becomes this....Why are the World leaders trying to stop something that would ultimately give us more food and a better quality of life? (answer-money and power) And why do some people follow them blindly down that path (answer-sheep)? I say bring on the heat and thrive. It would be a great thing for humanity if it were warmer. Ice and cold kills crops and humans. |
