© ATS |

An nonymous 12/08/2005 10:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | On the 1pm post in French, I googled for the translation and here it is: "January 19, 2005 12:16 Current failure on the arc lemanic: zones of shade remain GENEVA - All the light was not made yet on the current failure which plunged in the black all the arc lemanic Tuesday during one hour. Zones of shade remain in particular on the reasons which caused the interruption of the network of help. "the rupture of the power supply did not leave Geneva but of Lausanne", indicated Wednesday Philippe Verburgh, the director of the industrial Services of Geneva (SIG). According to him, the distribution still functioned after the thunderbolt of 14h42 thanks to the network of help passing by Lausanne. Ten minutes later, the strategic section western Romanel-Suburbs, close to Lausanne, was disconnected in its turn. "We are unaware of for the hour what caused the rupture of this line, but it is well this second breakdown which plunged all the arc lemanic in the black", explained Mr. Verburgh. In addition, the SIG have not been able yet to determine by which means the lightning could disconnect three major lines from only one blow. Two of these lines are installed on the same pylon, but the third has independent infrastructures. The SIG are still unaware of which pylon exactly was struck by the flash. This breakdown will have led all the same to a drama. A young girl and her grandmother died after being struck by a vehicle of civil Safety in Geneva. The mother of the young girl was also wounded in the accident. Its days are not in danger, according to Teaching hospitals´ genevois (HUG)." |

An nonymous 12/08/2005 10:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Does anyone know France well enough to say whether there is a connection here: "As part of an ambitious public/private sector initiative, the State of Geneva is supporting ‘BioBridge’ to develop collaboration in the field of biotech between Quebec and the region stretching from Geneva along the northern shore of the Lake of Geneva (referred to as the Lemanic Arc) where there is a concentration of major companies and start-ups in biotech and related fields." which appears particularly interesting because: "Geneva is at the heart not only of Europe, but of a region that boasts some of the most innovative and forward-looking global players in biotech and pharmaceuticals. Biotech is one of the four key strategic areas of development of West Switzerland while Geneva serves as the natural cosmopolitan gateway between France, Switzerland and beyond."
