The evolution of religion
Imagine that you have two people marooned on a desert island, one person is a moral, truthful, devout christian, and the other person is areligious, immoral, unethical, devious. What would be the outcome of this situation?

Oh, and say the two people are the same sex, age, and physique. Also say resources on the island are very limited, sometimes almost nonexistant. What would happen in this situation?

Imagine two religious systems developing in different areas of the world, one religion comes from a very resource-scarce area, a desert where even water is parceled out, and the other religion developes in a very resource-abundant region where space, food, and water are easy to aquire. How would the moral systems of these two religions likely differ?

Person B kills person A for food after he tires of eating vegetation.

But later, person B goes crazy because there is no one to talk to.

So, in a moment of insanity person B tries to swim for it and dies.

First off, the Bible is not of religion.

Where does morality come from?

I do not care who you are, most people derive morals from the Bible.

Group A has a deeper appreciation for the Creator.

Group B does not, to the degree of group A.

All that follows from that perspective (human behavior, codes, laws, etc.)
will directly reflect the aforementioned foundation of belief.

 Quoting: Lawman

If you were to derive all your morals from the bible, you'd be in a lot of trouble. Did you read all of it? Religious people derive their morals from their religious education, what they were told was in the bible.
In the bible are some interesting passages, I really hope you don't derive your morals from there:

(Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT)
If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

(Exodus 21:15 NAB)
Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death.

(Proverbs 20:20 NAB)
If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness.

(Leviticus 20:9 NLT)
All who curse their father or mother must be put to death. They are guilty of a capital offense.

(Leviticus 20:10 NLT)
If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death.

Just to name very few of the dozens of dozens (pun intended) of accounts of the bible posing as a very doubtful guide concerning morals.

That implies that religion is required for morality, which is an absurd contention.

Monkeys have a sense of morality, say scientists
Times Online
2009-02-17
MONKEYS and apes have a sense of morality and the rudimentary ability to tell right from wrong, according to new research.
In a series of studies scientists have found that monkeys and apes can make judgments about fairness, offer altruistic help and empathise when a fellow animal is ill or in difficulties. They even appear to have consciences and the ability to remember obligations.

actually
the ALL is not moral it just Is

I am sure that when we were just scattered tribes
morality developed in the hearts and minds of those interacting with others

but of course there were still thugs and tyrants
so Law emerged through consensus as a way for more than just one family to be able to live together and through co-operative efforts have a better greater life

Unfortunately

then came priests and lawyers

This is the first question in series of questions designed to teach PRACTICAL evolution to Christians. I heard it discussed on Sunday morning on NPR. Simplify the description down to "good, socially positive" vs "evil, socially negative". The first question's prediction is usually that the evil one would kill the good one.
Next question is a group of people, good vs evil on same island, same prediction.
NEXT, 2 islands: far away enough so that they can't be reached from each other, on one island the good group and on the other island, the evil group. Prediction: the evil group will destroy themselves and the good group will survive.

Shows that social behaviours such as kindness and altruism contribute to species survival.
