Were/Are Talented and Gifted Programs some sort of mind control
I went to TAG school after extensive IQ testing when I was 4. I lived in a small rural community and went to a TAG program that took students from across the county. We did things like dissections, psychologically based journaling (how do you feel about/when xyz), speed reading, computer programming etc like in the 3rd grade. I cant remember much more. We went 3 days a week all day in a public school system.

Now this was a VERY POOR rural community that provided this for students....

Any thoughts GLP?

If they were mind control, they were in favor of freedom. Helping the gifted to use all their gifts is in direct opposition to our current educational strategies that work hard to dumb down the sheeple.

Re: Were/Are Talented and Gifted Programs some sort of mind control
Wow, I have been wondering the same thing for years and years. I grew up in a very poor rural area. I was in GATE from 5 years old all the way through high school. As far as I know there is no GATE programs in most high schools across the US. We moved around some as a child and always ended up back here. When we were in bigger places the GATE was usually just an hour or two, nothing like what was here. I took algebra in the 5th grade for example. When I moved to Texas in the fouth grade they placed me with the 7th graders for 4 hours per day. I can remember being SCARED to death!
We had all these tests every single year, I took the PSAT in the 5th grade, and then the SAT in the 6th and never had to take it again. The I remember doing a MMPI type test on occassion in grade school, and various kinds of odd tests. Tests sort of like ink blot tests etc. I took an IQ test when I was very young, and I believe they tested many of us, for a time there were only 4 of us in a class for a period of time during the day, then we went back in with the rest of the GATE students for the rest of the day. We were all together for all of our school years. There were 9 of us total for the grade level, in the GATE program from k-5 all the way to 12th.
Once I moved away to Atlanta, and when I moved back the program did not have what I needed in 11th grade they provided me with private tutors, for French and Art. I just thought it normal... UNTIL later on in life.
Speed Reading??!!! You betcha, still do 700 pages in 2 days is just like breathing for me. last year I read 892 books, mostly non-fiction and most of them were 350 pages +. The journaling indeed, I still have all of them, I actually have little books that wrote and drew pictures for, as early as 6 years old. For god's sake I can remember reading the dictionary and the set of world books at 5 years old! I knew all the states and capitols in the 2nd grade! UGH how aggravating I must have seemed to my cousins! HAHA ( Maybe even now to people because I still am always a wealth of knowlegde, I tried to dummy down in my 20's, didn't work so well, I learned to be me without making others feel inferior and making my self look like a braggart) PC programming was later for us, I am 36 years old we did that in the 8th grade, I don't think they had computers for us in the 3rd grade! HAHA Dissections the same here! How about special ways to do math, I am like a human calculator, I cannot even use the fancy ones for statistics in college it was like I had a brain block when it came time to use it! I could do the problems in my head, but not with the stupid calculator! Tell me more anything sound like you???

Yeah I was in that shit. I was the only one that went from the gifted class to the guidance council and back again. I remember my first exposure to Magick was in a 'gifted field trip' and I took a class on visualization where they taught meditation and visualization ( this in 4th grade ). And yes its mostly about computers, this is the substrate for the converged megascience that is looming.

I was in various programs throughout my 12 years. Some are innocent, the ones run by smaller schools or the district, but the programs administered by colleges are very much so recruitment tools.

The Johns Hopkins Young Scholars was extremely uncomfortable.

Yes, i was in CHIPS at May Whitney Elementary School in Lake Zurich IL from 3rd to 5th grade, then placed in higher math and had to go to the high school for math class, though i was in 6th grade.

i had to leave my regular classes from 3rd-5th grade, i think 3 times a week, and we would go upstairs to this room with newer computers and play sim city 2000, and the lady would take notes, and we would have to put our heads in these instruments and watch red and green lights flash while sounds played in our ears...i still dont know the point of that.

I was in GATE in the 80s in Aschaffenburg, Germany. My father was stationed there in the Army. I have few memories of my childhood then or after. I have started to have memory flashes surface since I began researching all the craziness going on now. This thread is the first sign of hope for me finding anything out. #WWG1WGA

We just hung out and went on field trips. Our teacher was pretty cool but she ended up getting fired. Probably too cool.

We were supposed to fill out worksheets when we went to Epcot Center. No one did and the chaperones let us wander around the parks by ourselves. I had one of the older kids buy me a nudie mag.

Re: Were/Are Talented and Gifted Programs some sort of mind control
I was in it from middle school on.

In middle school it was just a few classes. In high school they were almost all of my classes. I had very few classes w others who weren't in it.

There was a big emphasis on "group projects" which annoyed me. It seemed to be a push away from individual achievement.

When we could go at our own pace individually that was the best. In 6th grade me and a freind finished a series of math grade levels in front of us early in the year. The teacher didnt have any other books for us so we spent most of the year playing Oregon trail on a TRS80.
The good thing was it got me interested in programming games though.

I remember only flashes. Most of my childhood is like that. But I do have higher senses than most people I know. Being psychic is something that has been used to describe these senses, but I am of the opinion that we are all capable of reaching these levels of consciousness.

Went to a TAG school for one year in Middle School/Junior High.

It was too experimental/Bohemian for my father.

He pulled me out after one year.

I quite enjoyed it though.

Was bored in a public high school, but I guess it saved him a lot of money and I could pass without really trying...and while drinking a great deal and doing a lot of drugs.

I did that stuff too. It was really not about challenging the best and brightest to really achieve their potential.

Sadly I think the common thread for most gifted programs is that it is cheap to let smart kids do what they want and waste their time since they were already doing well on standardized tests. Just ignore them because they're fine already.

Resources went to the failing kids and everyone else in general to lift test scores. The failing kids were mostly failing because of screwed up home life.

Remember the testing vaguely.

Elementary school. I had skipped a grade. I think they thought I was still bored. Just a day dreamer. Lots of timed puzzles.

Loved learning about science, photography, computers, mythology, history, debate...and I think it is where my curiosity began to bloom in terms of the occult.

Re: Were/Are Talented and Gifted Programs some sort of mind control
i was tested in preschool because i was already reading.
i had taught myself at home asking my mother what this word or that word was...they were big words.
i learned on the DR SUESS red dog blue dog book.
so i was super bored at school and after doing the work, i would get up and wander the halls which kept getting me into trouble.
i was just tired of sitting there, waiting for the other kids to catch up.
many times i had to sit with my head down because she had nothing else for me to do.
she SHOULD have given me one of those books she kept on the shelves but it never occurred to her.

so i skipped kindergarten and went to first.
later i skipped eighth and went to ninth but i never graduated with the others.
i dropped out and ten years after my class graduated i took the GED test.
it was stupidly easy and that was without even studying.
it seriously pissed me off because there was NOTHING on that test over seventh grade.
so that told me this whole school thing WAS just a waste of my time.

ive gotten married and had three gifted children as well
all tested, one is at 157 IQ.
i never learned what mine was but i did tell them i wouldnt go to gifted class because my favorite sister (we were basically inseperable) wouldnt go.

i am happy i missed out on the classes.
i feel like i dodged a bullet somehow.

Oh yes and anyone who is here that was in these programs....a series of questions...

Do you remember much of it? Not at all, only remember the idea of being in GATE. I always thought it was was my normal class 5 days/wk in 3rd-5th grade, but after asking my mom about it she actually found some paperwork she kept (she keeps everything, as everything is sentimental) that showed I actually was part of the “Special Day” class where I went to another class with a different teacher regularly (maybe a day a week, not sure). I don’t remember that at all.

What did they teach you? Don’t remember

Do you remember the testing? No

Do you use your talents/gifts? Define talents and gifts. I’ve definitely got strong intuition and am an empath. This has surfaced more and more for me as I’ve gotten older. It’s actually what prompted me to even look into this. Constant random thoughts of being in GATE, so decided to look into it. Before that, and unrelated, for years I’d have the random thought of “what if I have suppressed memories?” No reason to think that or idea of what might be suppressed. Other than that I’m also a speed reader and think of myself as having above average intelligence.
