How to clean your hard disks for the FEDs
Hi,

If you are involved in activism against your government (corrupted government that is) and need to clean things up in one or two hours, here it is how its done:

Lets say you have downloaded a file from the government and if they get it you are fucked. How to erase that?

1- Delete the file.
2- Make sure you didn't make any backups of your system while the file was inside it.
3- Burn any cd or 144 disks if you copied in there. Really burn it with fire until they melt completely.
4- save your things into another hard disk or burn disks, make sure you don't save the prohibited file with it.
5- format your harddisk using the quick format, there is no need to use the complete formatting.
6- install your operational system and move a very big file inside your disk (could be a disk image, like 4gb or a dual layer image of 9gb, or eveb blueray image of 30gb or so).

7- copy this image several times in your harddisk until you use ALL the disk space and there is nothing left.
8- erase all these copies and start using your computer normaly.

You are safe from the FEDs, you have re-written every inch of your disks inside the harddisk. If they use a reader to see whats inside, they will find the copies of your image/false file you copied several times.

This takes one to two hours, maybe less and its bullet proof!

If you are in grave danger and the cops are in your door, you will have to unscrew your harddisk out of your computer, then unscrew the hardisk itself and remove the disks from inside it and burn then really quickly.

Dont trust tv shows where the hackers put them on a microwave because it is a directional heat and it won't penetrate all disks. Depending on the microwave, some disk may be left intact and you are fucked. And some disks can be read even burned down (parts of it).

Melt them completely or you are fucked.

or you could do it a lot simpler, the old fashioned way.

rub it with a magnet, send a power surge through it, cover it in gasoline, set it on fire. then smash the fuck out of it with a hammer. seal it in concrete and bury it somewhere ridiculous.

you must have a really powerful one, I dont think anyone has anything other than average magnets.

Check the myth busters and you will see its not 100% guaranteed. All the feds need is an inch with info, and if that info happens to be where your file was... you are fucked.

that is true, sometimes the harddisk jumps sectors for no reason and some info can be retrieved from these sectors.

not to mention harddisks that are malfunctioning... you wont be able to re-write these mal-functioning parts and you are fucked because the last recorded info will be there.

Why not just remove the platters from the drives, then burn the platters? They're aluminum anyway, doesn't take a great deal of heat to make 'em disappear.

A better way would be to run 7+ formats of your HD (and I am not talking a quick format, if at all possible use low level format). If you rewrite it a single time the data can be quite easily recovered.

A bunch of passes with neodymium magnets helps as well.

D-Ban wipes drives to DOD specs.

Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN") is a self-contained boot disk that securely wipes the hard disks of most computers. DBAN will automatically and completely delete the contents of any hard disk that it can detect, which makes it an appropriate utility for bulk or emergency data destruction.

Re: How to clean your hard disks for the FEDs
We had a drive at work that a guy plugged the power supply into while it was connected to the back up system. I guess it shorted the thing out somehow.

It had a project worth over 100k on it. So we sent it off to see if any of the information could be recovered.

The guys we sent it to, do FBI and Police cases. Some of the very best.

8000 dollars later, all they could recover was 10 megs from 250 gigs of info. What a joke.

Just another point...

As of 2003[update] RSA Security claims that 1024-bit RSA keys are equivalent in strength to 80-bit symmetric keys, 2048-bit RSA keys to 112-bit symmetric keys and 3072-bit RSA keys to 128-bit symmetric keys. RSA claims that 1024-bit keys are likely to become crackable some time between 2006 and 2010 and that 2048-bit keys are sufficient until 2030. An RSA key length of 3072 bits should be used if security is required beyond 2030.NIST key management guidelines further suggest that 15360-bit RSA keys are equivalent in strength to 256-bit symmetric keys.

Re: How to clean your hard disks for the FEDs
Wrong!

The gov has equipment that can trace back data up to 5 copies deep. Meaning you must re-write the data at least 6 times on each block. A quick format does nothing to data on the disk. So even if you format then fill the disk up then format then fill the disk up again they can still read what was there. format and write must occur at least 6 times. There are programs out there like eraser that will permanatly delete a file then it writes garbage over the file with 32 passes.

huaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!
What a WASTE of time!

WARNING!
When you follow ANYthing written up to now in this thread your're fucked.

Wanna know how to REALLY get it done?

0. Forget ANYTHING under any Windows OS.

1. Learn how to install a plain Linux with every partition (including swap, home and root) encrypted.

2. In these entirely harddisk-wise encrypted pc use a large hidden volume inside a huge normal volume a program named TrueCrypt for your sensitive files.

Learn and adopt these concepts and you're save.
To end the threat simply press the power button of your pc to turn it off - end of show.
