MY opinions, and views were quite different than my parents. Actually 6 months after getting engaged (and 3 months before my wedding day) I ended up pregnant. My parents suggested an abortion to me since we were young and just getting started. I even went as far as making an appointment, but I didn't go through with it for a number of reasons. Partly because with my husbands injuries (he had had his pelvis crushed and lost a leg when he was 18) we weren't sure if he'd be able to father another, but mainly because I just knew I couldn't deal with the abortion itself. I was young and healthy and couldn't self-justify (I word it that way because the only person you need to justify this to is yourself - no one else) an abortion. I'm much older now and an abortion would be best for all considered (me, my partner, the child, society), but at that time it wasn't. Long story short, I had a beautiful son, his father & I got divorced, and yes we both lived with less things" but plenty of love. I never took any money form my parents or the state (no assistance). I did what I could to support my son the best that I could. So my views differed from my parents, but it was my parents that taught me that anything worth having was worth working for (they refused to sign financial aid papers when I went to college because they said the papers only went by total income and didn't reflect whether they had the "extra" money to spend on college or not so they wouldn't partake in what they thought wasn't the governments business so I worked 2 jobs, 7 days a week, for the first two years of college. They also refused to put me on their insurance when I got a car as it was clearly my adult responsibility to do so). Anyway - to say a child only reflects the view of their parents is erroneous and like saying the American Government only reflects the views of the American People. How many people here agree our Washington Parents? |
