meh, so what if they were... I don't want to subsidize the loser's mortgages. I want them to default, and want the housing prices to return back to reality, and not only that, overshoot so they are cheaper then historical averages.

Houses should be a place to live, not an investment that outperforms the rate of inflation... which prices future buyers out of the market.

This notions of houses being the way to easy street simply is not the norm and is over, unless you buy them to rent them out, which can be profitable if done correctly.
