If you buy a whole chicken (which is like $4), you can make it into more than one meal for 4 people. Chop it up and make three different casseroles, using different add-ins to change it up. When it's all gone, you can boil the bones for a chicken broth and add egg noodles a couple of celery stalks, couple of carrots, left-over onion...chicken soup. That's four meals - and five, if you use enough water for the broth and egg noodles, and you can have it twice. Cheese sandwhiches, peanut butter sandwiches, rice.... Slice up a couple potatoes into very thin pieces, toss them in a large skillet with 3 or 4 eggs, a little cheese, a little onion, and you have a filling breakfast. It really doesn't cost a lot to do those things. Goodbye, halcyon days... There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened. |

It's not glamorous but it will get the job done. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 625624 United States 03/01/2009 02:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | it could be done. won't be no frills tho. for treats, old fashioned popcorn..can be flavored, sugar, cinnamon, whatever. beans...always soak overnight, and cook with some vinegar or tomatoes to make not gassy. beans are versatile, burritos, bean soup, bean cakes(smash beans, add a little flour and optional egg, and fry. can eat plain or top with salsa)tostados..walmart has a whole stack of tos. shells for like 2.50, spread on the hot beans and top with lettuce. the dollar tree and big lots has some good deals on food. the main thing is to be creative. for drinks, cheap lemonade can be made with generic lemon concentrate and sugar. at least ya get vit. c. can't possibly tell you all i know on this subject, as i am an expert, love to cook and delight in making ends meet and making it taste good and be healthy. good luck. |

Something for the less skilled in the kitchen...several packages of M&C, a bit of ground beef, can of cheap spag sauce. Very good $3. Look at old traditional peasant receipes. They are usually the cheapest but often labour intensive. Every culture has them. |

It's important to have a breakfast, small or large, whether hungry or not. This produces needed insulin, and keeps one from having the large meals once or twice daily. Supper should be a light meal and done several hours before bed. No soda or any other sugar drinks, including milk which has a lactose/glucose. Water in between meals. Avoiding the all-you-can-stuff meals. Having more veggies helps with many blood. The goal should be to have more of the smaller meals and less of the large ones to shink the stomach. Eventually meals get smaller until they are normal size. $35 could buy a lot of broccoli cauliflower and beans. The avocado dip can be pricy. |

Spaghetti sauce - bottled Ragu $.88, canned Primo $.99 Primo pasta - $.99 Gold Seal canned chunk light tuna - $.69 Gold Seal canned pink salmon - $.99 Can't Believe it's Not Butter margarine - $.99 Pork loin roast - $1.49 lb. English muffins - 12 for $1.25 Fruitopia juices - $.99 Etc., unfortunately you can't find everything you need on sale, without travelling to various locations. |
