They lived the dream- though Kurt Cobains dream ended up a fucking nightmare shooting heroin. I am saying in the real world people need their real music, and Nirvana gave it to a segment in the culture, it cant be denied. Music is more than just talent. The guy or gal that captures the angst of life in rock music will be treasured. Nirvana captured it, and they will be remembered by many of us for it. Like all great artists, they moved on to other things. |

Their entrance onto the music scene signaled the death of hair bands. I know a lot of people who can name the first time they heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit", and there are a lot of bands that would kill for that kind of connection. Not all Nirvana fans are heroin junkies. |

I think they just made it more "mainstream". As far as "grunge" itself goes... Alice In Chains is a better bet, in my opinion. A lot of great bands were overshadowed by Nirvana that should have stolen the show back then, like the three I mentioned in my initial post. Not all Nirvana fans are heroin junkies. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 581058Sorry, there were plenty of other bands who could have done that on their own. "Hair metal" was already on the brink of death, and it would've only taken one slight push to send it to rock bottom. It just so happened that Nirvana came onto the scene at that time. But plenty of other bands would have finished off hair metal, that were far, FAR better than Nirvana ever was.
