Newly registered with a question about selecting an avatars

You know, I really like remaining anonymous, but i sometimes am known as Pi. I have actually run into your posts a few times here. You caught my attention, though, with a post you made on a thread of mine about the Money Masters vid. That was a few weeks ago. You were concerned about some one who posted and gave some great advise. You also linked to a thread with another of you posts (about beliefs if I remember), and I just really appreciated what you had to say.

As a rule...your avatar represnts the EXACT OPPOSITE of who you are in real life. Cyberspace allows you to "be" who you want to be, but are not, and probably can never be. So choose wisely! Beautiful women avatars= ugly women in real life.
Macho avatars= nerdy little guys who are punks in real life. ETC ETC.

If you are registered, then you can create your own AV...It's not difficult, you just need to keep the size within the given instructions.

I make all mine, and cycle through them, once in a while.

I love-love the butterfly! How'd you know butterflies are one of my favorite creatures, hmmm?

I was once in a butterfly "storm" in the Sierra Nevada desolation wilderness. I was standing there with so many of them flying all around me, their soft wings flapping on my skin...it was just about the coolest! I was just laughing, laughing, laughing.

And of course you may use the name Qualia for your character. The thing is it's not really a name, per se, it's a term.

Conscious experiences involve neural activity and information processing. They also feel a certain way. Consider your visual experience of reading these words, or the auditory and tactile sensations you had when you turned the previous page. There is something it is like to have those experiences. That is, the experiences have certain properties characterizing what it's like to have them. Those properties are known as qualia (singular: quale). C.I. Lewis coined the term in 1929. Common synonyms include 'phenomenol properties' and 'phenomenological properties', among others. Phenomenally conscious states, by definition, are states with qualia.

When I chose the name I didn't realize it was so philosophically complicated...philosophers, go figure. I was reading a Discovery magazine article a month or so ago and saw it described, simply, as a measurement of consciousness. I also thought it was pretty, and decided to adopt is an a new screen name.

You may want to take the above description of qualia into account before using it. Maybe it'll fit the character, and maybe it won't.

I don't know, but I know it sneaks up on me, now and again.

If I know I am about to write a long dissertation, I now do it in another program (I use CorelDraw) and then paste it into a new reply box.

I figure most of us ladies like butterflies, and I never miss a photo opportunity with them in my garden.

What a wonderful experience you had with your butterflies! What a marvel it is when one of them, or perhaps a dragonfly, lands on your hand!
