Well, come on, where's your comeback with your sharp wit and constitutional quotes, the ghosts of the children are awaiting you....why so silent?

Which children? So many died today.

Why not ask the guy in Graham Washington what gun he used? His kids didn't see it because he hid it so well. What do you think was his favorite gun to shoot his children with? Did he have a hard decision to decide?

If he chose a machete, maybe some could have gotten away, but Americans prefer to kill each other with guns, easier, can be done from a safe distance, and is the cowardly way. So brave to shoot your kids, now you can pry his gun from his cold, dead hands.

Wow, Susan Smith, that's a reach way back to compare to the killer in Washington. A couple years? Try 1994 almost 15 years ago.How many mass murders have happened since then? Do some research. I'm not suggesting you shouldn't own a gun, I'm suggesting that it shouldn't be so easy for anyone to own one.A 17 shot clip in a handgun? That is 17 times that an innocent person can be killed by a wild shot. Handguns are very inaccurate and unpredictable when not under controlled situations like at a range.Adrenalin makes you shake like a leaf, and in a danger situation it will flow like hell.Wouldn't you feel safer knowing less guns are around you than more?

Okay, now list the stories of handgun killings, that will keep you busy. I don't deny that your society is full of child killers, I'm asking if you support the right for anyone to bear arms that is a citizen, or do you support control for some people? Answer the direct question, this is a gun thread, not a child killing thread. Should I google a search for children shot by their parents or should you not cloud the issue?

In fact he had been seen by the schools psyciatrist who recommended he be monitored. But he wasn't. Its sad when anyone looses their life prematurely, but cars kill many more people then guns. Doctors kill more people then guns, smoking, drinking, fast food...all kill more people then guns. They never show you when a gun was used to save a life.

You are a responsible and sensible person. Maybe the punishment for illegal gun possession is too lenient. How about 20 years for illegal possession or sale of a firearm? Deterrence may help, most guns are initially sold legally, with a paper trail. Maybe a 50 percent deposit on top of the sale price of a gun, to encourage proper storage, or encourage surrendering of guns instead of selling them on the black market. There must be some way to reduce illegal guns....

Making it harder for law-abiding citizens to be armed is going at the problem backwards.
It's criminals that use guns to commit violence.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 587031
Many gun buyback programs take junk guns off the street.
Good idea!

I recall (my age shows here) BATF used to have a display at their HQ which included thompsons which had been torched into pieces and dumped into the ocean off NJ.
Then recovered by criminals who welded them back together and machined them into working again.
They also had a 9mm submachine gun made in a prison, from water pipe and scrap.

Zip guns are crude homemade guns often used in crime.

Paper-trail*
WWI & WWII & Ko9rean War surplus guns were dumped cheaply before the 1968 Gun Control Act began that paper trail.
Millions of guns, or more like tens of millions of undocumented guns are in America.
Burglaries, and kids selling daddy's gun for drugs put them on the illegal market often.

I got called into a local gun shop to identify a 'whatzit' being offerred for sale.
It was a German WWII vintage STG44 assault rifle. Full auto.
Gun shop owner sent them out. Call the cops? I asked him.
They know where my shop is. I don't want it torched.
That gun is out there, for sale to anybody with cash.

I like mine. It works great, i can make follow up shots much faster not having to realign sights. At 25 meters i can empty the mag into a 3-4 inch group almost as fast as i can pull the trigger. Also from a real world perspective you dont need to bring your weapon all the way up to your line of sight to shoot accurately. Im pretty tough on my gun, it goes for 4 wheeler rides. gets wet alot, stays wet a while. fired 3k rounds maybe thru it and laser has not gone out of zero. Batteries are still the original. I like the CT activation instead of on off, you only squeeze it when you want it so it cant be traced back to you till your ready you use it. I trust it much more then my open nightsites.

>Tactical Lessons

Some observers in the gun world thought Thomas would have been better served to carry his hardware on his person instead of stashing the guns in strategic locations in the shop The theory is that when the gun is on your person. it is always where you can reach it, and also simultaneously secured from unauthorized personnel.

The criticism has some validity; In his third gunfight, if Thomas could have quick-drawn from his hip instead of having to stretch and reach for his SIG, he might not have taken that first gunshot to the neck, which came so close to killing him.

We each bring our own preferences and habits to these topics.< from link article page 3

>Practice is critical. Turning Point filmed Thomas at a shooting range, firing rapidly from a Weaver stance. Kirchner notes that he constantly practiced quick-draw of his guns from their resting places. There can be no doubt that both of these practices helped Lance Thomas survive his gunfights.

Firepower was a factor in all but the first, three-shot incident. The next three averaged more than a dozen shots by Thomas per incident. Add in the first shooting, and it still comes out to at least 10 shots per gunfight fired by the defender, 19 shots in one incident. Once the scope of the predictable threat became evident to him, Thomas was wise indeed to upgrade his firepower from the five-shot, snubnose revolver he started with.

Some critics-- usually ensconced safely in armchairs-- opine that five shots should be enough for five perpetrators. Well, well. One of Thomas antagonists apparently thought that four shots would be enough for one Rolex dealer: he shot Thomas four times. Thomas sucked up the four gunshot wounds and then proceeded to kill the man who shot him.

Others might suggest, "He just didn't use the right ammo." Really? Unimpressed with the effects of conventional .38 Special ammo in his first shooting, he went to the Glaser Safety Slug, and was underwhelmed with its performance the next time, out in the real world. He shot men multiple times with 9mm and .45 automatics and with .357 Magnum revolvers and had to shoot them again and again.

Sometimes, against dangerous men in the heat of battle, nothing less than multiple serious gunshot wounds will short-out the attack. If we learn nothing else from Lance Thomas' four gunfights, we cannot miss learning this.<

We need a gun that can be reached in a fraction of a second. When an attack takes place, the victim is found in the unfair position of having to react to an attack in progress. The attacker has time to plan the event, carefully select his victim, and proceed with the crime. The victim is at a great disadvantage, and is almost always taken by surprise. The gun must be within reach.... <

Without reading your entire thread OP, here's what I think.

Lots and lots of insane shooting stories lately, sometimes twice a day, here in the States in the mainstream media. Of course I have to think there is an agenda.

Owning a gun reminds me of owning pitbulls.

I've known several pitbull owners who's dogs are as sweet as pie. The owners are good people.

Which brings to mind the guns that kill people.

It's the damn owners who have that mindset of killing.

But you already knew that.

Here is the link to how to win a gunfight:

>Here is what the US Army says about that in Field Manual 3-23.35 Combat Training With Pistols M9 AND M11 (June,2003):

"Everyone has the ability to point at an object."

"When a soldier points, he instinctively points at the feature on the object on which his eyes are focused. An impulse from the brain causes the arm and hand to stop when the finger reaches the proper position."

"When the eyes are shifted to a new object or feature, the finger, hand, and arm also shift to this point."

"It is this inherent trait that can be used by a soldier to rapidly and accurately engage targets."

With P&S, you engage your natural ability to point, which allows you to AUTOMATICALLY get COM hits, and even while moving.<

And with practice you hit without aiming out to about 40'

Well beyond typical gunfight range.

An article to show someone with no real world self defense experience can spout absolute BS

> It is true that a face full of .22 ammo will cause most attackers to cease their activities. It is also true that the .22 has taken more lives than any other caliber.<
True, so far

> The argument for "a faceful of .22" holds just as true as the argument for a faceful of .40S&W.

What is lost on many novices is the actual dynamics of self defense. With a .22 pistol, it would take seven well aimed shots to inject the same lead volume of one bullet of .45ACP. Those seven shots take time, and the cumulative effect may not be reached until minutes or even hours later. People have been shot in the face with a .22 and lived. While you are squeezing off your second and third shot, your attacker will not be just standing there waiting for more. They will be continuing the attack, or making it a lot more difficult to shoot them again. <

That article is a 'what if'.

Those seven shots can be delivered in seconds and I promise you head shots get the assailant's undivided attention.
But,
I've seen a man hit 3 times in the head with a cop's .357 who stayed alive and functioning for nearly an hour.
