Most Underrated/Overlooked Albums Ever
Another music thread... this one is dedicated to albums that didn't quite get the recognition that they deserved, despite being outstanding, and perhaps even one of the artists' best.

I'll kick it off with one of the most overlooked gems in AC/DC's catalog:

"Ballbreaker" by AC/DC, 1995

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

A vastly underrated and overlooked album, and one of my personal favorites.

This album is a little bit different from others... most songs lack the "crunch" of AC/DC's heavier stuff, and the music is more strictly blues-based than usual. The lyrics on several songs are particularly crass ("Hard As A Rock", "Cover You In Oil"), more so than usual.

But even more unusual is that several of the songs deal with some dark political themes, including Julius Caesar ("Hail Caesar" and Hitler ("The Furor")! "Caught With Your Pants Down" also takes a jab at Bill Clinton, fresh off of the Lewinski scandal.

The songs on the album are also quite lengthy for an AC/DC record. Most of them run from four to five minutes at least. The album is also very solid... several AC/DC albums are notorious for containing "filler", but the only song on this record that can be considered "filler" is "Love Bomb".

Overall, it's an outstanding album. I'm not sure why it never got more attention than it did, but it was released in 1995 at the peak of the "grunge" era. So I suspect that the ill-timed release is what ultimately shoved this album into relative obscurity.

On a side note... it also has one of the most awesome fucking album covers I've ever seen.

As an added bonus, here's the entire album available in video form, via YouTube:

Enjoy!

Oops... I posted this topic. It must have logged me out while composing it.
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by.
With bright knives He releaseth my soul.
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places.
He converteth me to lamb cutlets,
For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger.
When cometh the day we lowly ones,
Through quiet reflection, and great dedication
Master the art of karate,
Lo, we shall rise up,
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

That's my FAVORITE AC/DC song, and one of their best!

I'll match you with another awesome Bon Scott song:

Hell yeah man

My two favorite albums gotta be Highway to hell and Back in black though. Respect to Brian, he was a great choice and they kicked ass with Back in black.

Yeah, that's cool... except that's not "cynicism". "Sarcasm" is the word you're looking for.

I think that RADIOHEAD's "THE BENDS" is an incredibly overlooked album. When it came out, no one bought it. It really is fantastic, and it was the precursor to OK COMPUTER, and listening to it you can tell that they were on the way to something big.

Ah AC/DC, they were a special guest at a soldier fields jam fest. Back in 1977...I was 14 first time I heard them.
They have the power to create reality

I could explain it better but I would need charts, graphs and an easel.

By the way....which ones pink?

Im gonna go the other route....

and say that I think the most OVERATED band of all times is easily :

U2....

this band is very AVERGAE at best...

average musicnas, singing, songwriting/ melody skills...solos/ vocal harmonies , etc

perhaps the only thing standout about them, is some of their lyrics....but that alone is not enough to warrant them the critical and societal success they ahcieved...

Re: Most Underrated/Overlooked Albums Ever
I would also like to add Ride The Lightning by Metallica. Most people get too caught up on Master of Puppets and The Black Album to really pay any attention to this gem. I'd argue tooth and nail that it's actually Metallica's BEST album.

Observe:

Note: That's not James or Kirk playing guitar on the intro riff... that's Cliff playing double bass!

If you're a fan of Manowar this album isn't really overlooked, but the band on a whole (at least as far as i'm aware) never got enough respect. One of my top five metal albums for sure, Kings of Metal from 1988

Patti Smith 'Horses', although the industry and critics hailed it.

FYI - 'Highway to Hell' was Bon, 'Back In Black' was Johnson.
