Quoting: Anonymous Coward 642515We shouldn't ever fear "God"....only be awed by the awesomeness of it all. OK. That makes sense. The awe of God makes a lot of sense. Thanks. Of course we shouln't ever fear "God". That is why that phrase is so confusing. |

Did you hear that? He that walketh in his uprightness "feareth the Lord." We may say, he that does not walk in his uprightness, does not fear the Lord. A WISE MAN FEARETH, AND DEPARTETH FROM EVIL: BUT THE FOOL RAGETH, AND IS CONFIDENT-Pv 14:16. Some time ago, a certain gentleman stated that we should not fear the Lord, but only love Him. As he continued sharing his views, his words began to approach blasphemy of the Holy Spirit—as he seemed to be connecting things of the Spirit of God with Satan. He was warned twice. This gentleman maintained that he loved God, yet he did not seem to be afraid to speak such words. The fear of God did not appear to be in him at all. Jesus tells us, FEAR NOT THEM WHICH KILL THE BODY, BUT ARE NOT ABLE TO KILL THE SOUL: BUT RATHER FEAR HIM WHICH IS ABLE TO DESTROY BOTH SOUL AND BODY IN HELL-Mt 10:28. It is written, BECAUSE SENTENCE AGAINST AN EVIL WORK IS NOT EXECUTED SPEEDILY, THEREFORE THE HEART OF THE SONS OF MEN IS FULLY SET IN THEM TO DO EVIL. THOUGH A SINNER DO EVIL A HUNDRED TIMES, AND HIS DAYS BE PROLONGED, YET SURELY I KNOW THAT IT SHALL BE WELL WITH THEM THAT FEAR GOD, WHICH FEAR BEFORE HIM: BUT IT SHALL NOT BE WELL WITH THE WICKED, NEITHER SHALL HE PROLONG HIS DAYS, WHICH ARE AS A SHADOW; BECAUSE HE FEARETH NOT BEFORE GOD-Ecc 8:11-13. God is trying to tell you to fear Him, for it will not be well with those who do not. The Bible tells us of those who honor God with their lips, but do not fear Him. Although they may seem to honor God, their heart is really far from Him. The Lord said, FORASMUCH AS THIS PEOPLE DRAW NEAR ME WITH THEIR MOUTH, AND WITH THEIR LIPS DO HONOR ME, BUT HAVE REMOVED THEIR HEART FAR FROM ME, AND THEIR FEAR TOWARD ME IS TAUGHT BY THE PRECEPT OF MEN-Isa 29:13. |

And much like, oh say, looking up into the clear night sky and realizing just how very very small we are kinda 'startling'... and... that sorta startling type realization sometimes may also be rather fear-filled for folks as well. However, and hopefully so anyways, lol... just as we may be startled by a sudden loud noise coming from somewheres close by, and we quickly go into a fear/preservation based like heightened awareness of our immediate surroundings... and as in that ol' fight or flight adrenalin routine kicks in... 'hopefully' we'll also check whatever it is out a bit further. |

THEN PAUL STOOD UP, AND BECKONING WITH HIS HAND SAID, MEN OF ISRAEL, AND YE THAT FEAR GOD, GIVE AUDIENCE-Acts 13:16. MEN AND BRETHREN, CHILDREN OF THE STOCK OF ABRAHAM, AND WHOSOEVER AMONG YOU FEARETH GOD, TO YOU IS THE WORD OF THIS SALVATION SENT-Acts 13:26. Are some of you getting upset already? These words are from the Bible and are very clear. TO YOU (to those who fear God) IS THE WORD OF THIS SALVATION SENT. This Scripture, which Paul spoke, may seem strange to your ears. It may even offend some of you. You may believe it is not appropriate to scare people into making a commitment to Jesus. Nevertheless, the Bible tells us, AND OTHERS SAVE WITH FEAR, PULLING THEM OUT OF THE FIRE; HATING EVEN THE GARMENT SPOTTED BY THE FLESH-Jude 23. It said, save with fear. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 645533Ok, what's the deal with "It is written"? Don't you have any of your own thoughts? And by the way, defining a word or phrase by using it is not a valid definition. I did not ask for bible quotes. I want to know what you think. Since I got bible quotes I have to assume you don't think. From everything I have read of Jesus, he did not tell people to fear god, he told people god loved them. Paul was an assinine idiot who wanted to create his own religion based on hearsay and his masogynist ideas. |

I took the time to read a couple of your other posts. You are entitled to your opinion. I'm with you when it comes to religious wars (or any other wars for that matter). That's not the point. You have every right to not believe in something you cannot see, hear, smell, touch, or taste. And others have the right to believe in something beyond the five senses. All people require is their own space to explore from their own perspectives. It's called respect. And it's relatively easy to do....just see another as someone like you...living life in the way they see fit and right for them. Peace. |

Hello Sombra, The term comes from the Old Testament where it was used extensively. Having been brought up with these teachings, the Lord's apostles also referred often to it, however, in the mainstream scriptures, you will never see the Lord refer to it as His teaching was to bridge the gap between mankind and God. Whether, it is used to create a fear or a sense of awesomeness, these teachings still create separation between man and God. This was not what the Lord was about. |
