Even in the "booming" 90s, most people in flint were driving to other cities for work. When gas prices started to hit hard, they started moving to those other cities if they could. Many couldn't, they were living paycheck to paycheck as it was. The surrounding towns aren't much better off, either. Most of the jobs are minimum wage, simply because there are far too many available workers, and not enough spots. Even more skilled positions are low paying, because so many people tried to get ahead by attending the local colleges, so it's not just the usual urban ghettos that are suffering, even people with 2 and 4 year degrees were finding it hard to keep a job...and that's before things started to get bad. Take a look at the racial makeup of flint michigan here: [link to www.city-data.com] Can you tell me what commonality there is between all the cities that are turning into cesspools, and what we can do about it? I know what we could do, legalize all drugs.. that would end the ghettos in the US overnight. Seems the government purposely encourages certain ethnic groups into being users in order to accomplish certain political objectives. Increased gun violence will allow them to clamp down on gun rights. This is just one example. Rather then laying the blame where it lies, ON THE CRIMINALS, it allows them to do what they really planned all along, tighten control over the law abiding citizens. |
