Yeah flint's been the pits for a long time now. Even in the "booming" 90s, most people in flint were driving to other cities for work. When gas prices started to hit hard, they started moving to those other cities if they could. Many couldn't, they were living paycheck to paycheck as it was. The surrounding towns aren't much better off, either. Most of the jobs are minimum wage, simply because there are far too many available workers, and not enough spots.
Even more skilled positions are low paying, because so many people tried to get ahead by attending the local colleges, so it's not just the usual urban ghettos that are suffering, even people with 2 and 4 year degrees were finding it hard to keep a job...and that's before things started to get bad.
I can't imagine it now.
