Opus Dei is an organization founded in Spain in 1928 by Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer. The stated aim of Opus Dei is to "spread throughout society a profound awareness of the universal call to holiness and apostolate through one's professional work carried out with freedom and personal responsibility." (Encyclopedia of Associations) Opus Dei is made up of lay members and priests; Opus Dei laity continue to work in the secular world, but remain under the strict spiritual direction of Opus Dei. All Opus Dei members follow "the plan of life," made up of spiritual practices such as daily Mass, rosary, spiritual reading, and mental prayer, as well as Opus Dei prayers and customs. There are different classes of membership in Opus Dei: Numerary members pledge to remain celibate and generally live in Opus Dei houses. They commit their entire salaries to Opus Dei, submit incoming and outgoing mail to their directors, and practice various forms of corporal mortification, including use of the cilice, a spiked chain worn around the thigh, and use of the discipline, a knotted rope for whipping. To read the testimonies of several former numerary members: Opus Dei Recruits Minors and Deceives Church Officials Opus Dei Superiors Lied to Church Officials Deception and Drugs in Opus Dei Supernumerary members may be married, and live with their families. They follow the same "plan of life" as the numeraries, but generally do not know about many of the details of numerary life. They contribute large portions of their income to Opus Dei, often at the expense of their local parishes. To read the testimony of the daughter of a supernumerary: [link to www.odan.org] Numerary priests join Opus Dei as lay members, but are then hand-picked by Opus Dei superiors to become priests of Opus Dei. Numerary priests hold the top government positions in Opus Dei. Many hold important positions in the Vatican. Each Opus Dei house is assigned a numerary priest, whose responsibilities include saying Mass, hearing confessions and giving spiritual direction to the Opus Dei members. Associate Opus Dei members also pledge celibacy, but they generally do not live in Opus Dei houses. They include people who have not acquired university degrees, or who must remain with their families for personal reasons. Numerary assistants are women who pledge celibacy, and are responsible for the care and cleaning of all Opus Dei residences. To read the testimony of a former numerary assistant: [link to www.odan.org] Cooperators of Opus Dei provide financial support, but are not considered members of Opus Dei. Unlike Opus Dei members, cooperators do not have to be Catholic. (Note: More testimonies from former members of Opus Dei can be found at the following link: [link to www.odan.org] ) Despite its seemingly noble intentions, Opus Dei has stirred up controversy in countries all over the world. Families of Opus Dei members are almost never involved in the vocation process, (in fact Opus Dei itself often discourages its new members from even telling their families about their decision - the following testimony demonstrates how Opus Dei has ignored directives from Church superiors to cease recruiting minors and to require they discuss the matter with parents before making any commitments to Opus Dei: Opus Dei Recruits Minors and Deceives Church Officials) Also questionable are Opus Dei's recruiting tactics, which are comparable to the tactics used by cultic groups. In the early 1980's Opus Dei was granted designation as a "personal prelature" within the Church. A personal prelature is an entity within the Catholic Church that is headed by a "prelate" (currently Javier Echevarria) and defined by persons rather than by geographical area (such as dioceses). Therefore, local bishops have little control over Opus Dei's membership, activities or practices. In 2002, Opus Dei's founder, Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer, was canonized in Rome, Italy on October 6 after having been beatified amidst substantial controversy in 1992. There were many irregularities involved in Escriva's swift canonization (he died in 1975), including the refusal to accept the testimonies of almost a dozen people who opposed the canonization and knew Escriva personally, including Maria del Carmen Tapia, Father Vladimir Feltzman and John Roche; the elimination of the Devil's Advocate from the canonization process, a change effected with the participation of Opus Dei's first prelate, Alvaro del Portillo; and the authentification of miracles by Opus Dei doctors, along with other conflict of interest issues. Opus Dei has stated that there are approximately 80,000 Opus Dei members worldwide. Opus Dei is located in many countries, including England, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, the Philippines, countries in Central and South America, and many others, including the United States. Opus Dei generally locates in or near major cities, often near prestigious universities, where they hope to attract recruits. Since its inception in 1991, ODAN has been in contact with people from all over the world who have experienced the questionable practices of Opus Dei. Many are former members; others who have contacted ODAN include parents, siblings and friends of current or former Opus Dei members; priests and religious, including bishops and campus ministers; news reporters from both the Catholic and secular press, parents of children who attend Opus Dei schools (Letter1; Letter2) and many more. In recent years, groups of former members from other countries have gathered together to point out the deceptive and manipulative techniques employed by Opus Dei members and to share their stories. Among these are Opus Libros, based in Spain, and Opuslivre, based in Brazil. From the contacts ODAN has made, it has become apparent that wherever Opus Dei is, there is controversy. The great tragedy is that most Opus Dei members do not realize that the ideals they aspire to do not correlate with their actual practices, which include a culture which demands aggressive recruiting, especially at the numerary level; the withholding of information from new recruits and new members; the imposition of intense coercion and guilt on those who wish to make free decisions; and blind obedience to superiors as the Founder of Opus Dei commands in Maxim 941, The Way: "Obedience, the sure way. Blind obedience to your superior, the way of sanctity. Obedience in your apostolate the only way, for in a work of God, the spirit must be to obey or to leave." As for the Hapsburgs...they play an interesting role and in modern times, have changed 'sides'...or perhaps...created their own side? They are currently in possession of the gold from King Solomon's mine - it's back in Austria now BTW. Beginning in the 1980's, when the gold was still in Paraguay, they began moving back, via Greece. They were also involved in the assasination attempt on Hitler which is one of the reasons I say they may have changed sides. This is good!!! Quoting: Rev. StargazerTHE HOLY SEE AT THE UN The Holy See is a Non-member State Permanent Observer at the United Nations. This is a rarely used designation shared only by Switzerland. It gives the holder some of the privileges of a state at the UN, such as being able to speak and vote at UN conferences. No other religion is granted this elevated status. Other religions participate at the UN like most other non-state entities - as non-governmental organisations. The Holy See owes its participation in the UN to an accident of history - the membership of Vatican City to the Universal Postal Union and the International Telecommunications Union. [link to www.secularism.org.uk] There's a lot more of the article - check it out. Sneaky bastards! The International Telecommunication Union is the second-oldest international organization still in existence (the oldest being the Rhine Commission), established to standardize and regulate international radio and telecommunications. It was founded as the International Telegraph Union in Paris on 17 May 1865. Its main tasks include standardization, allocation of the radio spectrum, and organizing interconnection arrangements between different countries to allow international phone calls — in which regard it performs for telecommunications a similar function to what the UPU performs for postal services. It is one of the specialized agencies of the United Nations, and has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, next to the main United Nations campus. It is the is the world's oldest extant international organisation. Legally, the Commission's authority comes from agreements made at the Congress of Vienna, held in 1815 in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars. The first meeting took place on August 15, 1816 in Mainz. In 1831 the Convention of Mainz was adopted, establishing a number of the first laws governing Rhine navigation. In 1861 the commission's seat was moved to Mannheim, and on October 17, 1868, the Convention of Mannheim was agreed to. Palais du Rhin, seat of the CCNR This agreement still governs the principles of Rhine navigation today. Then, as now, the member states were Germany, Belgium, France, the The Netherlands, and Switzerland [1] (The United States was temporarily a member immediately after World War II, while Germany was under Allied occupation.) The current revised convention is that signed in Strasbourg by the five members of the commission and the United Kingdom on 20 November 1963 and brought into force on 14 April 1967. There have since been additional protocols.[2] Shortly after the end of the First World War, in 1920, the commission's headquarters was moved to Strasbourg as a part of the Treaty of Versailles. In 2003 the European Commission asked for the permission of the Council of Ministers to negotiate the adhesion of the European Union to the regulations of the CCNR and the Commission of the Danube, especially given the prospective enlargement of the EU. Rev. Universal jurisdiction is an exception to traditional rules of international jurisdiction; it allows any nation, even one with no connection to the offense, to try people suspected of extraordinarily heinous crimes. High-profile examples of universal jurisdiction include the Belgian proceedings against Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the international tribunals for war crimes in Rwanda and Yugoslavia, and the growing docket of human rights litigation in U.S. federal courts. Courts that have joined in this expansion of universal jurisdiction, and the scholars who support them, rely on one key precedent - the law of piracy - to legitimize departing from the traditional jurisdictional requirements. For hundreds of years, piracy was the only offense that was considered universally cognizable. The new universal jurisdiction ("NUJ") uses piracy as its precedential and conceptual foundation. Piracy, the argument goes, merely illustrates the broader principle that whatever offenses most shock the conscience of a given era can be prosecuted by any nation. Exercises of universal jurisdiction can have dangerous consequences because they can be seen as encroachments on another nation's sovereign prerogatives. The "piracy analogy" maintains that at least for heinous crimes, this concern is unfounded: the jurisdictional treatment of piracy proves that nations do not mind ceding jurisdiction over people suspected of egregiously vile offenses. This Article refutes the generally-accepted view that piracy became a universally cognizable offense because of its heinousness, and by extension, the notion that piracy law can provide a valid precedent or model for the NUJ. The Article shows that piracy existed side-by-side with privateering, a form of state-licensed piracy that was entirely legal under the law of nations. That piracy was considered acceptable when committed with sovereign authorization shows that piratical conduct was not viewed as innately heinous in the sense that NUJ crimes are. Furthermore, the Article explains that piracy is simply a species of robbery, and was never regarded as significantly more heinous than robbery is regarded today. The fallacy of the piracy analogy casts into doubt the soundness of many cases that use the analogy to justify their expansion of universal jurisdiction. It also has cautionary implications for international tribunals that might seek to exercise universal jurisdiction, such as the International Criminal Court. It is also used in the present to describe the status of torturers. A comparison can be made between this concept and the common law "writ of outlawry," which declared a person outside of the King's law, a literal out-law, and subject to the violence of anyone. (ie - no rights whatsoever) Admiralty Law Seaborne transport was one of the earliest channels of commerce, and rules for resolving disputes involving maritime trade were developed early in recorded history. Early historical records of these laws include the Rhodian law (of which no primary written specimen has survived, but which is alluded to in other legal texts: Roman and Byzantine legal codes) and later the customs of the Hanseatic League. The Hanseatic League (also known as the Hansa) was an alliance of trading cities and their guilds that established and maintained trade monopoly along the coast of Northern Europe, from the Baltic to the North Sea and inland, during the Late Middle Ages and Early modern period (c.13th–17th centuries). The Hanseatic cities had their own law system and furnished their own protection and mutual aid. The Hanseatic free imperial cities owed allegiance directly to the Holy Roman Emperor, without any intermediate tie to the local nobility. Notice how this all deals with commerce and the Holy Roman Empire??? Etymology The English "pirate" is derived from the Latin term pirata and that from Greek πειρατής (peirates) "brigand",[1] ultimately from πεῖρα (peira) "attempt, experience",[2] implicitly "to find luck on the sea" Wow! So to attempt or to experience makes one an outlaw and without any rights! It's a crime against humanity to experience! Be a good little citizen of Rome and do as your told and all be be safe and well. Arrrrgh Matey! Screw the 'system', I wanna to be a pirate! Because the most powerful American corporations are of recent origin, it is easy to think of the corporation as a modern phenomenon, but actually they are very ancient -- so ancient that their actual point of origin is lost in legend of Numa Pompilius and beyond. The oldest surviving corporation of any sort is the Benedictine Order of the Catholic Church, which was founded around 529 A.D. Ah! And the current Pope is from this very same order... A THOUSAND YEARS from now, our time will be remembered as the Second Dominion of the Corporation. During the early 20th century, enterprises bearing imprimaturs like Corp., Ltd., AG and S.A. gained control of the vast physical wealth in what used to be called the Free World. Then with the advent of new economic policies in the Soviet Union and China during the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the corporate conquest neared completion. Virtually the entire planet had become organized and regimented -- in short ruled -- by corporations. This accomplishment is beyond the power of any individual or any other type of organization in human history. It not only overshadows the authority of the world's social, political and religious forces, it transcends them, so that all people may find utility in its embrace. [link to www.astonisher.com] Corporations are 'persons' under the law. A legal person, also called juridical person or juristic person,[1] is a legal entity through which the law allows a group of natural persons to act as if they were a single composite individual for certain purposes, or in some jurisdictions, for a single person to have a separate legal personality other than their own.[2][3] This legal fiction does not mean these entities are human beings, but rather means that the law allows them to act as persons for certain limited purposes—most commonly lawsuits, property ownership, and contracts. [link to en.wikipedia.org] In general usage, a human being; by statute, however, the term can include firms, labor organizations, partnerships, associations, corporations, legal representatives, trustees, trustees in Bankruptcy, or receivers. A corporation is a "person" for purposes of the constitutional guarantees of equal protection of laws and Due Process of Law. Two of three judges ruled the men -- because they are not U.S. citizens and, technically, were not imprisoned in the U.S. -- were not legally "persons" and, therefore, had no rights to violate. While those judges were defying common sense and decency by denying legal personhood to living human beings, an appeals court in Boston has been reviewing an April 2007 decision by Federal Judge Paul Barbadoro that engaged in a different form of judicial activism -- granting human rights to corporations. Barbadoro struck down a New Hampshire law that prevented pharmaceutical corporations from learning exactly what drugs doctors prescribe and how much they prescribe. The law aims to protect doctors and, indirectly, their patients, from drug companies pressuring doctors to choose their products. The judge's grounds? He claims corporations, as legal persons, have "free speech rights" that would be infringed by such a measure. This allows a corporation (usually a religious corporation) to pass vertically in time from one office holder to the next successor-in-office, giving the position legal continuity with each subsequent office holder having identical powers to his predecessor. (virtual immortality) The concept of corporation sole originated as a means to the orderly transfer of church or religious society property, serving to keep title within the church or religious society. In order to keep the religious property from being treated as the estate of the vicar of the church, the property was titled to the office of the corporation sole. In the case of the Roman Catholic church, the property is usually titled to the diocesan bishop, who serves in the office of the corporation sole. The Roman Catholic Church continues to use the corporation sole for holding title for property, [link to en.wikipedia.org] So...Corporations are 'immortal' persons whereas, we humans are merely 'mortal' and can even loose are rights as humans if it pleases the courts - they have become our 'gods'. Quoting: Rev. Stargazer Because the most powerful American corporations are of recent origin, it is easy to think of the corporation as a modern phenomenon, but actually they are very ancient -- so ancient that their actual point of origin is lost in legend of Numa Pompilius and beyond. [link to legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com] The New World Order of the Benedictine (been a dicked) Religious Order - the epitome of communism The Rule of Saint Benedict (Regula Benedicti) is a book of precepts written by St. Benedict of Nursia (c.480–547) for monks living communally under the authority of an abbot. Since about the 7th century it has also been adopted by communities of women. During the 1500 years of its existence, it has become the leading guide in Western Christianity for monastic living in community. The spirit of St. Benedict's Rule is summed up in the motto of the Benedictine Confederation: pax ("peace") and the traditional ora et labora ("pray and work"). Compared to other precepts, the Rule provides a moderate path between individual zeal and formulaic institutionalism; because of this middle ground it has been widely popular. Benedict's concerns were the needs of monks in a community environment: namely, to establish due order, to foster an understanding of the relational nature of human beings, and to provide a spiritual father to support and strengthen the individual's ascetic effort and the spiritual growth that is required for the fulfillment of the human vocation, theosis. The Rule of Saint Benedict has been used by Benedictines for fifteen centuries, and thus St. Benedict is sometimes regarded as the founder of Western monasticism. There is, however, no evidence to suggest that Benedict intended to found a religious order in the modern sense and it was not until the later Middle Ages that mention was made of an "Order of Saint Benedict" NOTE THE JESUIT 'OBEDIENCE' CLAUSE . . . The Rule opens with a hortatory preface, in which St. Benedict sets forth the main principles of the religious life, viz.: the renunciation of one's own will and arming oneself "with the strong and noble weapons of obedience" under the banner of "the true King, Christ the Lord" (AKA THE POPE WHO CLAIMS TO BE GOD ON EARTH) (Prol. 3). As regards the political question, which aims at reconciling liberty with Authority--two things which many confound in theory, and separate too widely in practice--most efficient aid may be derived from the Christian Philosophy. For, when this point has been settled and recognized by common agreement, that, whatsoever the form of government, the Authority is from God, reason at once perceives that in some there is a Legitimate right to command, in others the corresponding duty to obey, and that without prejudice to their dignity, since obedience is rendered to God rather than to man Chapter 33 forbids the private possession of anything without the leave of the abbot, who is, however, bound to supply all necessities. -WIKIPEDIA |
