"Just be thankful you HAVE a job"
First off, yes, I'm thankful I have a job. I'd be foolish to think any different. Secondly, yes, I do apply for other jobs when they happen to come available. I do not approach my discontent with passivity.

What is pissing me off is that those words are being told to me (and others where I work) in lieu of getting a raise.

The store where I work was recently bought out. This was good and business has increased by at least 65%. This increase means we're all working even harder, and no new employees are being hired.

I questioned a manager last night about when we'd see the performance reviews the new owners promised us when they bought the store (we'd been under a wage freeze for a year under the former owners). He said not to expect a raise for at least another year.

ANOTHER *BLEEPING* YEAR?... wall

Yes, I'm thankful I have a job, but damnit, I'm not grateful for being taken advantage of...the rat bastards, and I'm getting just about fed up to my last nerve with being told, "Just be thankful you have a job."

What? Is that the new method of pay raise these days? I'm tellin' ya, it doesn't jive with the $50 bill being the new $20 bill...not by a long shot.

The new owners are right now making money hand over fist, and they can't give us who make it happen for them raises?

Oh...my...god, and ironic it is that I just right now got a call from work to come in on my day off tomorrow...I think my last standing nerve is about ready to blow a gasket.

Kwap, I don't know whether to laugh like a maniac or cry with frustration at this point...ffs.

A short while after my first year review was due to happen(it didnt)we were bought out by a corporation and a wage freeze was put in place (supposedly temporary) and then the economy started to tank and wage freeze has not been lifted so ive been making the same money for the last two years...So..i know how you feel Qualia

HUH!! yeah, I used to say that without meaning behind it, Kinda just said it to remind people about something that could never happen to me. Pretty funny. I'm not gonna work a minimum wage job. I just won't do it. I'll take to whatever I have to before that shit happens. I've got too much knowledge to go belittle myself and my family.

But....But......Then I remember that God has always taken care of me and my family and I also believe that as long as i am working, God will always take care of mine. So fuckit maybe tomorrow I'll apply at JBX who knows. Anyways, The statement holds true. I should have heeded my own advice. tat close

It really bothers me to hear people complain about their jobs, and how they hate going to them... I've been unemployed now for 2 1/2 months, and I'm expecting that like most it will last oh about 1yr. at the least. So please do us a favor and stop complaining about shit like this. Re: "Just be thankful you HAVE a job"
Sounds like you need to get out of that job as soon as you can.

The "you should be thankful you even have a job" excuse is a further sign they don't give a damn about you. Can you imagine if your spouse cheated on you and when you confronted them they simply said "well you should be thankful you even have a partner"? (not a good example but similar).

Some business owners/managers are like politicians - they will promise something they cannot deliver in order to deceive and subjugate you. The economic recession gives companies an excuse to freeze wages and/or adversely affect working conditions.

After discovering that many (not all) managers are sociopaths/psychopaths this kind of ruthless behavior does not surprise me.

Hey Qualia
Yea, Im thankful. I work for myself and bussiness is actually too good right now. Only problem is I have no life. I have to provide such a high level of service to keep it that way. Was thinking today. is it all worth it? For G D Federal Reserve Notes. I dont even have a moderate lifestyle. Well, thats relative, I guess. I know there is an easier way out there and was thinking about dropping off the grid again. Damn, I always feel this way at tax time!

I have a tip for you, a little "thinking outside the box", if you will. Hit the ground walking and start delivering your resume in person. I don't know why it worked or what the deal is but I know two people who've landed jobs this way. Both were fed up with e-mailing/snailing resumes. Maybe their luck had something to do with showing up in person instead of being another faceless resume in the piles.

I understand your point. I worked for a company that gave out raises then 6 months later laid most everyone off including me. I was told I was also an asset to the company as people fought to keep me and asked the owners to please reconsider, they needed me. But it fell on deaf ears, or they just didnt care. I left with them telling me they would hire me back if business picked up. I'm not counting on that, but I appreciated my job, and was one of the few that actually showed up to work every day for 7yrs to do what I was paid for, to work. Still got laid off. Unfortunately it really doesnt sound to me like you really are thankful for you job.

New owners rarely turn a profit. A lot of people do not understand this. The first few years in business are spent recouping funds.

Yep some employers are taking advantage of the unemployment rate to screw the workers. I know someone working for a company for salary it is a family business. Sales are down but they have not given raises in 2 years which were already low. To top it off a few of them were asked to come in on a Sunday the bosses WHOLE family mean while in the Bahamas for a 2 week vacation. The guys came in did what they were told to. THEN WERE NEVER PAID FOR IT ! Being told times were tough! Total ffing bullshit!
