he swore that the uses listed were done so because if people knew Borax could subsitute plant food it they would use it instead.

Actually, RoundUp is better for plants than Borax. But it's not too late. Try some RoundUp on your bushes. You can thank me later.

Roundup works best with a little 2,4-d. Keeps on fertilizing a little longer.

Borax only works in the fall right before winter. If you take a cup full of bleach and a cup full of amonia and mix them together with a spoonfull of salt try spraying that on the plants. It should help bring them back.

I don't see anything humorous about giving out a recipe for something that will kill somebody who follows it unthinkingly.

Best part of this thread is that Borax is great fertilizer because when growing organically you don't have trace boron added like in synthetic fertilizer.

Borax is best applied as a weak foliar solution with a spray-mister to deficient plants only.

Good thing he didnt say it was good for you health, to take a spoon full a day. Dont ever listen to people on hear, they sometimes try to harm people

It's sad, isn't it? Ironic, also. Borax is not only not 'roach poison', it's good for you. It's an incredible fungicide and it's one of the best defluoridation agents out there.

Borax (boron) is a plant fertilizer. It is commerically sold as such by Searles, along with instructions for its use. It is found in the soil and essential for plant growth. Used on alkaline soils.

Re: To the idiot that said Borax was good plant fertilizer
Yup. the poison is in the dosage... a small amount is necessary for most plants, in fact, most soils are deficient unless you live in a semiarid zone, but in high concentration it will kill. Borax is a salt, after all (Sodium Borate). It is necessary for building cell walls and for nutrient exchange, deficiency is typically seen as yellow streaked leaves and wilt. Nitrogen fertilizers supposedly inhibit boron intake by the plant, so it should be used alongside traditional fertiliser rather than alone. It's your fault if you went ahead and poured out a box of 20 mule on your mother's plants. It's like hearing that water makes them grow faster so you throw them in a pool. Dosage people, Dosage.

Re: To the idiot that said Borax was good plant fertilizer
How much did you use? It takes very small amounts.

Borax is used in very small amounts in the Mittleider method. It, and the custom fertilizer mix, was invented by this guy:

Treatment for Boron Deficiency in Vegetables

The Royal Horticultural Society notes that boron is essential for healthy plant development. Some plants suffer from boron deficiency. Broccoli displays this deficiency with hollow stalks and beets with black spots. Other crops may also develop a boron deficiency including cabbage, strawberries, cauliflower and strawberries. If you suspect that your plants may have a boron deficiency, conduct a soil test to be sure.

Directions
Add 2.5 oz. of borax into 5 gallons of water and a few drops of dish soap. Spray the solution evenly on plant foliage. Do not concentrate the solution in one area.
