Your point is good, but I'm not prepared to dismiss the threat of zombies just yet.

What other Horror, Terror, Mystery,... Genre deals directly with the possibility of you having to hunker down and keep you and your safe, fed and clean?

I am a HUGE Zombie Fiction fan, but many of the movies, and books could substitute zombies for the general public who have not prepared for the worst.

Find a house 3 stories at least, destroy stairs/ awnings.

Actually, of all land based structures... a prison works the best... fences... concrete construction... restricted access.. full kitchen... electricity... water.. weapons...

Water bladders, (empty) are a must have.

One match destroys your fantasy.

Prison +1 on that idea.
Just gotta get rid of the "locals".

I have only 2 windows that are accessible from the front of the house. Everything is behind a Iron Fence, surrounded by a 7' to 11' wood fence. Soooo, hopefully I can board up those and call it good.

I always thought the zombie movies were just metaphors for a desperate, greedy, hopeless segment of society that didn't prepare for "doom" and were after those that did. The recent version of Dawn Of The Dead was a perfect portrayal of that....all the zombies congregate at the mall (their consumer society instincts still exist), they can now run too (making them more human like).

Now maybe if the SHTF and those that were unprepared are suddenly cast into what would be an unbelievable, nightmare scenerio, to those that did prepare it would feel like they were mindless, blood-thirsty zombies coming for your stuff. The only difference is you wouldn't have to just shoot them in the head.

Luckly a zombie most likely wont be conscious enough to light a match. Zombie dogpile? I dont think that kind of dog piling would actually be possible with a zombie, you are assuming they wouldn't move and would let another zombie climb them.

Not possible you say, so what is this?

Oh I have ladders and a torch... I can take a section of the fence down in a few minutes.

AND I have a below ground bunker,,,, seriously!
So if all else failed, we could lock ourselves in.
