TRIGGER HAPPY User ID: 541861 United States 04/26/2009 09:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This swine dud was quite a pathetic sight to watch unfold. Some (most) of these people are so doom hungry it is WELL beyond simple preoccupation, it's actually demented obsession. The unnecessary and convulsive panic displayed here over these last few days was due to people feeding off each other's overblown hysteria. This really was a testament as to herd mentality and what happens when people follow the herd in a frenzied stupor. And those are the people calling other people sheep? Ha Ha Ha! Can you imagine what it will be like when something really serious happens? These people will fall apart because all they know is fantasy panic. They get off on the idea of panic and will not know what to do or how to remain calm in a real emergency. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 442346 United States 04/28/2009 11:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.pandemicflu.gov] The first sparks appeared during the last week of September 1918, when some 61 New Yorkers were diagnosed with the Spanish flu. The pandemic soon became a raging fire. Less than two weeks after it first appeared, more than 2,500 New Yorkers were afflicted. Tens of thousands would follow them to the hospital. Thousands would follow to the morgue. Nearly 4,000 New Yorkers perished from the pandemic during the first three weeks of October. At the same time, more than 4,500 more died in cities all across the state. In Rochester, 213 perished in one week. The great pandemic filled not only the orphanages of New York City, but also its hospitals and morgues. More than 90,000 New Yorkers were eventually afflicted. More than 12,000 perished. When it comes to pandemics, there is no rational basis to believe that the early years of the 21st century will be different than the past. If a pandemic strikes, it will come to New York. |

Let's hope it is benign. But let's also be watchful and not bury our heads in the sands of hope or fear, as this OP is suggesting. We can face what comes, but only if we face our fears and risk ourselves to the knowledge that fate may call on any of us at any time. |

Most of the threads are about the Coronavirus, not flu. “If we are peaceful, if we are happy, we can smile and blossom like a flower, and everyone in our family, our entire society, will benefit from our peace.” Thich Nhat Hanh, Being Peace "But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you." - Job 12:7,8 "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." - Hunter S. darth User ID: 28178764 United States 02/16/2020 04:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Human psychology: 1. Hurricane Katrina was a national disaster and well covered by media. 2. Hurricane Rita resulted in a massive clusterfuck as the entire Gulf Coast tried to evac simultaneously. People sleeping in their cars, no gas or food to buy, and ...a dud. Turned and went to Beaumont. 3. Hurricane Ike warnings ignored by many. They thought, "Probably a false alarm like Rita". My inside sources tell me that over 6,000 died on Galveston Island when the storm surge completely submerged the island. They had refused to evac. Mostly poor and black so no one missed them. There was a "no fly" zone over Galveston Bay and Aransas as they picked up all the bodies. Compliant MSM helped cover it up. So....we had SARS, MERS, and Ebola. All controlled. People think "Nothingburger". Not this time. We have an OUTBREAK of massive proportions. Slow moving doom, but inexorable. You can ignore it, but you cannot escape it, at least, not easily. Prep if you can. I took three shopping carts out of Wallymart tonight with dog food (gotta feed the ones guarding the darth homestead), COFFEE and the canned milk I use in it. Worst doom ever in my lifetime. |
