Where is the best place to be to survive
Were would be the best place to live off of the land until you could get some livestock, chickens, crops going. I've got some pretty decent survival/farming/building skills (pop made sure of that) and I grew up poor in the country around farms and such. I'm pretty sure that my old lady and I can do it.
We're just getting tired of the BS
I will assist each individual in their efforts to become a highly motivated, well disciplined, physically and mentally fit soldier, capable of defeating any enemy on today's modern battlefield.
I will instill pride in all I train. Pride in self, in the Army, and in Country.
I will insist that each soldier meets and maintains the Army standards of military bearing and courtesy, consistent with the highest traditions of the U.S. Army.
I will lead by example, never requiring a soldier to attempt any task I would not do myself.

Seems to me anyplace that has a lake, deer and small game. Are you looking to buy property or just go somewhere? Have you searched Craigslist and eBay for foreclosed land?

Have you already used military benefits to purchase as of yet? You could join a commune as an option. I would think some place where you have seasons so that you can take advantage of rain, snow, gardening ect.

You need a almost year round growing season.
You need to know how to grow and save any harvest.
Water source of course.

Modern people tried to do this very thing some years back.
They made a documentary of it.
they had to make it for 1 year.
6 couples ... only 1 barely made a year.
good luck.

it depends on how serious you are.

for the very long term...possible foreign occupation etc..

go to the most remote location you can tolerate in the highest regions of the Rocky Mountains.

or. a town in the Rockies with a bugout location where there are NO roads in the highest mts.

'you need a almost year round growing season'???

why?

uh. grow what you can in the climate where you are...greenhouses etc if you wish. ...kill animals...learn to bottle and dry (meat, veggies, fruit) ...and you will be absolutely fine. but..store ALOT OF SALT. this is one thing that modern people do not talk much about...but in the old days..salt was worth as much as gold. ...salt to preserve meat...salt for when you sweat it out while working your ass off to survive.

only one thing absolutely necessary...CLOSE TO WATER. that is the only thing necessary...all the rest is planning.

a good water well is the cure all. a person can live for over 30 days without food....

I think the documentary was about trying to replicate conditions as they were in pioneering days,
our actual set-ups would be different than that, we would utilize whatever modern equipment, gadgets, aides we could.
And ideally, we would be involving a whole community, to enable specialization in growing/producing something, and then exchanging for other goods/services.

Nayyyyyyyy! I think we'll pass on that one. I guess there isn't anyone here that really grew up poor in a small town so that you learned to make stuff yourself. I mean don't get me wrong it's really nice to be typing here from suburb of Cincinnati. But you get tired of it after awhile.

Maybe it's from all the deployments and going to the field all of those years in the Army. Drinking hobo coffee from a yukon stove, knocking the snow off of your tent and warming up with a candle to keep yourself from freezing your gnoades off. Of carse you have to listen, but it's a lot easier to sleep and listen when you don't have all of the racket from modern life.

Just an old man talking I guess

Re: Where is the best place to be to survive
Best place is a rural area, it doesn't really matter what part of the country, I would say try to be at least 100 miles away from any major city. If you can find land with moving water that would be a must. Montana and Wyoming don't have to many people there, also lots of places in Texas that are unpopulated.

From there you will want to start a greenhouse so you can get your starter plants growing early in the season. If you can have some life stock. Chickens and rabbits are really good. The chickens will give you a renewable source of food daily with the eggs and they really do taste better than store bought ones, I don't think I could ever go back.

With the chickens it is best to keep them free grazing for the summer months except when you first plant a garden, they will scratch it all to hell if you let them out early. But once your plants have started let your chickens free graze as they will eat any and all bugs that are around. For the winter months feed them warm oatmeal to keep them laying eggs and keep them cooped up. If you insist on having them always cooped then be sure to lay chicken wire on the ground of where they will be or else foxes, skunks etc can dig through to them. If they are free grazing be sure to lock them up at night so critters don't eat them.

Rabbits are also a great food source, also use their droppings for fertilizer, rabbit droppings make for some of the best.

If you have room for cattle try to do that, try to raise one a year at least then you can pay someone or learn to butcher it yourself. Nothing better then a freshly slaughtered cow.

ERRRR, My kids have kids bud. My kids tell them how I ws while in the Army they don't believe it. Whether it was "going to the field" or deployments.

Heck I can tell you one. I was a DI at the time and I had about 250-300 "Joes" in the "front leaning rest", hollering and cussing. My wife and kids pass us in the van. The kids being small started waving their hands and shouting "Hiiii Daddyyyyy". 300 "Joes started laughing and then clapped when they stood up.
