Quoting: Reality is BSThe media, particularly the visual media today, is a very sophisticated delivery system of control and manipulation. From newspapers to radio to television, the computer and now cell phones, it has evolved. The entertainment news, once relegated to cheap newsstand tabloids, is now a constant on all the major websites. Human beings are by nature curious creatures and easily sucked into headlines like "Britney speaks out", "First lady's fashion home runs", "Is this IT for Brad and Angelina?", etc. I can hear the sucking sound as I write this. (I bet one person will read this and Google at least one of these quotes). People just want to be in the know and not left out. It is a form of Orwell's "1984" mindset of "group-think". Now a new phenomenon is gaining strength - "Twittering". I was embarrassed when Barbara Walters, on The View, wanted the younger gals on the show to teach her to "twit". It was pathetic. Now people can get short 147 character idiotic comments from friends like "I'm going to wash my hair", "Just got home from the gym", etc. It's more distractions and now it proving very dangerous as two major mass transit accidents have been caused by the operators of the trains "texting" while they should have been driving. Whether it happens to a machine or a human being, it is called "information overload" and is a perfect programming tool. When lab rats are tested using similar stimuli, the rats eventually collapse into a very docile and apathetic state. I see this happening to people every day and that is the plan. "The sign of a dying society is either apathy or tolerance". (Aristotle or Socrates). |
